I found this old cigarette card a few years ago on the floor shed along with a couple of late 60’s african stamps. Seem to remember that there was another card with a MK1 Escort on it but I can’t seem to find that one. Absolutely no idea where they came from as I built the shed myself about 10 years ago!

On the back it read:

"POLICE FILE
No. 35 COLD COURAGE
On a cold winters day, a police officer dives into a fast-flowing river … in a brave attempt to save a trapped lorry diver’s life. This office PC Skerratt of the Cheshire Constabulary, is a member an Underwater Sear Unit, even though he was on motor patrol duty at the time. In this instance, his special skill were invaluable. He borrows breathing apparatus from the Fire Brigade. Stripped off and dived into the freezing river. For his bravery in this attempt to save life, PC Skerratt was given a special award by Liverpool Shipwreck and Humane Society

Many forces have specialist teams of divers. Card 31 shows a police frogman in action”

No, his was an unmarked car used by the Liverpool force driving school. I understood Daryll was a
civilian driving instructor with the force.

I've just unearthed a few notes and a letter from Eric Waud re questions I asked when I was restoring my car.
Twin tanks: Apparently following the first batch of twin tank Cooper S's, Eric says that because of fuel problems with feed pipes they only had the first set and after that, they only had 4 cars with twin tanks fitted as standard. That's why some of the later Mk2's are shown without twin tanks
Calibrated speedos that were serially numbered but otherwise identical to standard.
Panel switches below dash mounted radio fitted by police workshops in BEACON POLICE STOP HORNS FOG SPOT order
Fog and Spot fitted but NOT wired
Mechanical washer pump bypassed and electric pump and switch fitted by police. Mechanical left as a standby
Paint. A bit of confusion because paint matching of the commercial white goods hard ICI POLICE WHITE could never be guaranteed so when damaged, Ford Diamond white was a good compromise!!!!!! Don't blame me, I'm just reading his letter and my notes!
Each vehicle came with a single wipac reversing light - but not wired in!

I have an interior shot of a Mk1 car outside the Liver Building and the screen surround is covered. Some of the MK2's weren't covered. Anyone wants to see the letter and interior photo, just ask

It is said that the concrete, brass and copper Liver Birds on the top oif the Liver Building will squalk if a virgin walks past

There's been comment on this on the latest 'have you seen this on e-bay' thread. It looks as though it's got an ex Police number plate - and there endeth the lesson!

This scenario is not unusual with Minis and ' historically famous ' number plates....

It looks as though (first picture) IF you reached the dizzy heights of CID, you were rewarded with a flashy new HB Viva 8-)

I took this photo off the tv screen (freeze frame paused) on BBC4 "The Secret Life of Rubbish" (2012) of a Police Panda Mini Mk3 850 in Bermuda village, Nuneaton in 1972.

A Police Minivan recently restored by my brother.....the South Wales Police history only came to light when applying to DVLA for details of the previous owners.....and then the various holes found in the roof and dash areas matched up.
PolicecarUK only know of one other surviving Police Minivan both have now been featured in Miniworld.

I think that HH is Cumberland and not Liverpool

OEW suggests that the CID got the Viva's. We were told initially that CID stood for Cxxxx In Distress

'HH' was a Carlisle plate. In the local rag a few months ago there was a picture of one the Carlisle Plods Mini's (they do a bit with historical pics in every week), unfortunately the pic was to small to make out much in the way of details or reg number.
