Crank Seal Guard?

Post by tomkidd »

How do folks, just been looking at the Keeping Your Mini Alive magazine and it shows a crank seal guard that sits onto the teeth of the primary gear, to protect the red oil seal that goes into the transfer case.

I can't see it online anywhere? The magazine suggests that you must fit it... if only I had one I would!

Do you mean one of these Tom.?

The sleeve is the one on the left.
When I didn't have one of those I used to wrap some masking tape round the primary gear splines then use a feeler gauge blade to gently tease the seal over the back of the gear whilst gently shoving the outer edge of the seal at the same time. Worked a treat.
Apologies for the blatant advertising. :)

THanks, I know of that tool but this thing is like a disc that sits over the crank oil seal... after you have fitted the seal

They where only standard fitment on verto engines, it's a plastic protecter/oil flinger. Part No.DAM2821, no longer available. But I'm sure I saw in one of the comic's, somebody has started producing 'em again.
