dumb question... when assembling the Cooper S front wheel bearings in the swivel hub hub, from the outside to the inside of the car, I'm assuming this is the order of the parts:
Pressed-in outside oil seal
Bearing
Metal Spacer
Bearing
Pressed-in inside oil seal
White plastic thingy
In particular, I'm unclear where the white plastic thingt goes?...as some old parts manuals show a spacer BETWEEN the inner bearing and the inside oil seal... but it looks like this white plastic part goes on last (after the inside oil seal, and up against it)..
Thanks

Some bearings have a narrow outer track and the plastic spacer takes the place of the missing track to put the seal in the correct position.

Hi,
As far as i know, they keep the dirt from the oil-seal.

The missing spacer that goes between the inner bearing race and the inner seal, has been obmitted on newer models... think they stoped using tht with the Mk2 Sor something.. What is basicly does is prevent you from pushing the inner seal too far into the hub, which could affect how well it seals the bearing.
The white plastic ring is just a dust seal that you fit a few mm inside the tip of the CV-joint (tip of the innermost thick part), when you asseble this together the dust cap will slide into place.

Hi Fellas...
The White plastic thingy ( dust seal ) should BETWEEN the inner bearing and the inside oil seal.. Right???

It goes over the seal to protect it, the plastic dust seal is actually shaped to go over the ridge on the oil seal.
