F1 back to it's best ?

Post by Pete »

Watched the Monaco GP yesterday and despite my earlier reservations that it had become a tyre changing competition I can honestly say it's back to it's best. Whether you like the fact that the drivers have so many driver aids or not, or that pitstop strategy/tyre choice has become more important than the driving there's no denying that the racing's back ! Overtaking at Monaco ?? Surely not, and loads of it ! Whatever the FIA have done it works in terms of entertainment and I don't nod off during races anymore !
A fantastic finale with Button, Alonso and Vetel nose to tail, the latter on shot tyres was a cracking prospect until Perez hit the barriers bringing out the red flag and that battle to a premature end. Wish I'd bought tickets for Silverstone now. :(

Totally agree, Surf. That's the first full race i've watched in years. Just a pity we didn't get the final laps with Alonso and Button trying to get past Vettel on shot tyres. It could have been similar to the great battle between Mansell and Senna years ago.

I'm an avid fan and there hasn't been a bad race all year so far. Monaco was the least interesting all year. Very high quality races on these New tyres.

Vettel didn't deserve to win that one I have to say.

Agree :D Enjoying it at the moment ( though i'm a JB fan). Montreal next, that was a cracking race last year, hopefully the same this. I think i might enjoy F1 cause it's the only m/sport the wife will watch :!: :!: Pity about the last few laps of Monaco, i reckon Alonso would have had a lunge at Vettel with the chance of Button grabbing 1St with the front two tripping over each other. We do need a non Red Bull on the podium, i get the impression Mark Webber woul prefer anyone other than Vettel on pole ;) :!:

Can only agree its been great. I watch all the races live (most are on 12am or 2am here) The new tyres are great. I wish they still did fuel stops but thats my only gripe.

Lewis was quite upset and blamed Massa for 'turning in' on him.. what a joke  Hes just upset because Schumacher pulled off that overtake on him early in the race.

I don't usually watch Indy but seeing that Rookie crash on the last bend of the 500 while leading was amusing.

I'm quite sure that J. R. Hildebrand wasn't amused...

Man, I really feel for the kid.... leading the last lap of the Indy 500 only to throw it all away on the final turn....
I will say that was the most interesting 500's in recent memory.

Got to say how good JB handles the press and bites his lip even when he has reason to have a moan something Lewis needs to copy, having never had to do the upbringing in a back of the grid team he does not know how good he has it!!

One of the reasons i like JB, spent years plugging away at the back, does'nt chuck his rattle out of pram during 'live' interviews ;)

And he loves old car's. Back in my splitscreen day's he was often around the forum and turned up at a few meets. He owns or did own a really early Coke-Cola splt creen bus, appreciates the work in all restorations and get's his hands dirty (ish) when he can.

Refreshing for a turn key motorsport star. I'm most impressed.

Yes I saw a gold coloured ex Jenson Button splitty for sale recently.
Another big JB fan here, I'm afraid Lewis is in danger of turning into another Wayne Rooney albeit with a slightly more glamourous bird (but just as thick ! )

I'm a big JB fan too. I really like the racer and spirit in Lewis he never gives up but he does need to grow up a little.

Ye loving the F1 at the moment, plenty of action, even if the overtaking is a bit like shooting fish in a barrel.

Keep an eye open for the new Senna film, due out this week I think. And on a two wheel front, if you haven't seen the 'TT 3D' film yet it's well worth watching.

What an absolutely stonking race again, filled with drama and Button, what can I say, that was the drive of his life from 15th to 1st. This is turning into the best season in F1 for pure entertainment since ... err... a bloody long time ago !
Lewis out again with another do or die overtake attempt. He's a hero when he pulls those moves off and a villain when he doesn't, I think he needs to learn just a little patience. Not sure I completely believe Button's excuse for squeezing him out though, the rear visibilty at that point didn't look that severe ? :?:

JB , what can i say :!: Fantastic, what a drive, Vettel at last cracked under pressure. Without the farce of changing tyres on the grid at |Monaco this could have been back to back wins for Jenson :?: :D

Well after a wet wet Beaulieu I get back to find a wet wet Montreal. After what seamed like forever the race turned out to be a cracker. Luckily for Vettle his two main rivals at the start of the race failed to finish. But now Button has moved upto 2nd in the championship.

....as was Rockenfeller after hitting that barrier at full tilt in the other Audi when another 'amateur' GT driver swerved into him. Another incident packed race and a great weekend for motorsport . (if not weather !)
