Primary Gear Tolerance Problems

Post by tomkidd »

Gents,

I am trying to set my primary gear up and I am having some issues. I am using 2 sets of feeler gauges so I know there is no rocking going on. I'm trying to set it to around 6 - 8 thou.

What I am finding is that one side (level with the prongs of the C clip) is too tight, and the other side is just right. I have tried turning round the C clip round and that makes no difference. I have measured all distances and thicknesses and they all seem the same.

Any ideas? Should I get the tightest gap to be 6 thou or should I try something else?

I've been looking at it for 2hrs today, on and off, on and off etc.

:(

Hi, Just to share some painful experience!
Better allow the max. 8 thou in your race SC box, see photos, that is the overheated and seized P Gear from Named supplier!
For street use I will take 4-6 thou!
Hope this help Tim!

Tim, I think it's that your cocking your bush on your shaft. Grasp your shaft with both hands and check for burs up and down the shaft. This is something I'm sure you will be familiar with and can take into hand. Prior lubrication is a must.

Definitly no cocking going on, even before the feelers go in there is a noticeable size difference.

Does anyone have a second hand C clip and back washer I can try?
