Re: Veltone carpet BAS International
but not enough to put me off paying for the correct heel mat,
That isn't the correct heel mat for a Veltone carpet. That's the heel mat for the earlier woollen one.
It does look better though

Re: Veltone carpet BAS International
I have chased BAS once a fortnight for the last 6 weeks. There is still no sign of this Veltone coming back on stream.

Re: Veltone carpet BAS International
There is someone in cooper register magazine offering veltone, I had a sample from him so if this doesn't come off will order a set from there, I do have a few months to play with though as currently painting the body, I will have plenty to keep me busy till carpet is needed,
What does a veltone mk2 heel mat look like.

Mark have you come across anyone producing a carpet that's remotely like the earlier wollen carpet?mk1 wrote:but not enough to put me off paying for the correct heel mat,

Apparently the Newton ones are quite good now.

Not seen one with my own eyes though.

Re: Veltone carpet BAS International
They really are, I got a set in red late last year, and the color is spot-on to the original Veltone (although the texture is of course completely different). I haven't fitted the carpet to my car yet, and won't for some time, but it seems very good.mk1 wrote:Apparently the Newton ones are quite good now.

I'd happily swap it out in the future for red Veltone if BAS decides to make it one day, but happy with the Newton in the meanwhile.

Re: Veltone carpet BAS International
You can get ribbed rubber sheet that is almost identical. I get mine from here to line my tool boxes with.

Really pleased with the quality and great cutomer service.
They also do red and black.
Speak to Rebecca at BAS international - 01633 873644 for samples.
Cheers, Fraser
Thanks!

Re: Veltone carpet BAS International
Just received my samples from BAS. Overall, I’m impressed, it’s quality stuff.
There were some questions on this forum (maybe in another thread) specifically about the red carpet, so here’s my notes.
I have a piece of really clean original red Veltone from under my ‘66 S heater area. It’s unfaded and a good comparison point.
- The BAS material has a fiber backing (unlike the original rubber back). It’s also considerably thicker than the original Veltone
- The color is slightly darker than original. I normally wouldn’t notice, but when put side-by-side, the original is VERY bright red. The BAS is a shade darker (mostly noticeable in direct sunlight), though still a closer match to the original than Newton wool
- Based on pricing noted on this forum, the BAS material is incredibly expensive for a carpet... but details are details...
- Not sure exactly what the heel plate will look like, or if it can be ordered in LHD arrangement.
I’m on the fence at the moment. It would be an easy decision if I hadn’t already bought the Newton carpet awhile ago (based on the long wait from BAS to produce this stuff).
Original on left, BAS on right (indoor lighting) Original on left, BAS on bottom, Newton on right
Original on left, BAS on top, Newton on right
