Get rid of goo?

Post by Giff »

Whats the best chemical to use to clean off the black tar like substance used to hold on the sound proofing felt?

I've used a razor scraper to remove the bulk of the stuff and I guess I could use thinners but can see it turning in to an awful mess, any suggestions?

Try a few.

I have a feeling that Celly thinners may not do the job.

If it doesn't you'll need a polar solvent, probably not a good idea to use acetone, perhaps acetate based (usually smell fruity).

A good test for this is to put some nail varnish on a small bit and massage it in and then wipe off with a bog roll. If it comes clean, acetate is your chum.

I have some cleaner that will work. We use it for work to remove adhesive, and it works well on sound deadening.

It smells like oranges but does the job. ;)

pm me your address and I'll send you some.

Started off with some nail varnish remover which didnt touch it so seeing as I'd run out of brake cleaner I reached for the white spirits which worked a treat!

Now just the entire roof to do... I think I might do that on the spit and pre soak it a bit.
