Abbey Road, December '66, George and Ringo arrive for another night session to work on 'Strawberry Fields Forever' with LGF 695D parked up for the duration... looks bloomin' cold doesn't it...

That'll be the smog from all the coal fires. With all the lentil eating Guardian readers getting log burners London will soon be suffering from smog again.

Great picture but looks more the Circuit of Ireland Rally with Gallaher sponsorship and red number plate on the FIAT.

I can't recall where I found this but nice to see that some people were living in colour in the 1960's

1969 or 1970, note the price of petrol is 6/- (shillings). Decimalisation happened in February 1971.Costafortune wrote:Early seventies at a guess.

Re: Just a nice period picture
The late Paul Lips owned the car.
The information from www.redandwhite.it for the car is

After a year it was sold to the BMC dealer in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Andrews and Co.
Two years later it was bought by a private man, James Cathcart, who used it a lot in the Irish rally.

I do remember that COI pic popping up on facebook, so many amazing rally shots have turned up on there in the last few years! It does have it's uses!

Yes. It's a pic from the 1968 Gallaghers Circuit of Ireland, and yes, FIAT with the red rear number plate will be an ROI registered car. Trying to think where the town is. It is very familiar. Initially I thought Caldedon Co Tyrone but the church tower is throwing me off - Alan (Supersonic) have you any ideas?Simon776 wrote:Great picture but looks more the Circuit of Ireland Rally with Gallaher sponsorship and red number plate on the FIAT.

Here one for those down under.

Re: Just a nice period picture
Spotted these on ebay. Looks like they would have been taken in the very late '70s at an Abingdon open day.
First shot show the Paddy Hopkirk London to Sydney car, with the Evening Standard sponsored Maxi from the 1970 World Cup Rally and a Brian Culcheth Triumph 2.5 in the background Next up is a Jag XJ12 Coupe touring car with works Marina Here's a Wadham aand Stringer sponsored Mini Challenge car BSCC Dolly Sprint

I love the much faded hand painted BMC rosette in the background of the last shot.
Reminiscent of BMC's faded glory.
