Re: At The Auctions
Looking at some of these car and accessory descriptions I'm convinced that most EBay sellers, classic car salesmen/persons, estate agents, government ministers/politicians et al must go on a course at a secret poly or further education kollege like wo' I went two in order to do a flowery language course in double meaning and obfuscation. There MUST be a course for it somewhere......, I mean, you could never just learn it naturally could you. There's probably an application form at the local Post Office

The block was stamped 'Swiftune'. I wouldn't have thought they would do that if they hadn't nailed it together.Pete wrote:head and cam, was the engne built by Swiftune?Simon776 wrote: But it does have a Swiftune motor in it.

Prices achieved at the CCA sale at the Restoration Show
1966 Austin Mini https://www.classiccarauctions.co.uk/au ... ven---mini £9900 inc premium
1978 1275GT https://www.classiccarauctions.co.uk/au ... 75-gt-8898 £7480 inc Premium
1964 Morris Cooper S 970 https://www.classiccarauctions.co.uk/mo ... i-cooper-s £40700 inc Premium
Fair price for the '66. I think the GT is very expensive for a car that has so much missing. The S seams on the money.

Re: At The Auctions
A good illustration of how baffling the car buying market is.Trev advertised that car on the internet for weeks for a whole lot less than that. Never been able to work that out, a common scenario, and buyers complain how expensive cars are at auction. You can't win! Trev will be happy with that!surfblue63 wrote:

Re: At The Auctions
Yes, strange isn't it Pete. I have previously sold 2 other cars at auction and very pleased both times. Seems to be worth paying the commission as they seem to make more at auction than you can get privately plus no hassle with tyre kickers coming to your home and nosing around for what else you have got. Whatever you advertise your car for they try to knock you down on the price.
With the auction route you get a hassle free sale.
I must say all 3 times using Silverstone / CCA auctions I found their marketing and advertising very good.
The auction route may not be for everyone but it is the way for me.

Re: At The Auctions
I think it has to do with the auction being part of an event. There are far more potential bidders to view the cars and it appears that cars sell better when sold at the NEC, Goodwood, Race Retro or The Silverstone Historic. I think if sold at a regular auction by the likes of Brightwells or H&H that S would have sold for mid 30s.

Re: At The Auctions
I saw it today. Apart from some pickling on the door hinges, it looked a very nice straight car. The white 850 was okay if not entirely correct (over riders on a base model 850) and the black GT ripply and horrible.

Auctions encourage people to pay more, the bidders think if other people think it’s worth the bid it must be !!
the under bidder thinks “just one more bid” they get outbid and so it escalates, meanwhile justifying to themselves there was someone one bid below them willing to pay the price so it must be worth it.

Re: At The Auctions

Re: At The Auctions
I love that - its period home modding at its best (behind the 'er S obviously).
