Parnell's "Mini Cooper in Detail". Is it available or not?

I have ordered it from Amazon year ago, but never got any. According to some sites it is "sold out" and some just out of stock. But is it ready or still just coming out?

It's still being worked on at the moment as far as I know, but I'm sure it will be worth the wait

Not a reprint of the 'Original' book, this is completely new. The series 'In detail' exists for other marques and does what it says on the cover. John is still adding to it and I can say that the wait will be worth it for all true anoraks.

I thought the first book was a great piece of reference for those restoring or buying cars when it came out, though a little light on mechanical info. The downside though is the following trend for people to build detail perfect Heritage Certificate recreations from that info which has taken alot of the fun out of owning them I think, many an original car with 'incorrect' detail gets frowned upon nowadays !

I like the fact you can use it to get all your parts right. I don't like being frowned upon though if I get it wrong. I'd love to do everything by the book, but sometimes its just funds that lets me down.

In my opinion you should just use what keeps the car on the road, then whilst you are enjoying it you can look for the 'correct' part and fit it if you find one, there's no point keeping it off the road just because someone wants to say you have the wrong ashtray / gearstick ect on the car

I think that's what's changed, that they're now such prized posessions people don't use them very much anymore and so don't have to replace bits with whatever they can find just to keep them on the road- as they will have done in the 60's/70's/80's. My old MEG was incorrect in a number of ways with it's Mk2 door handles etc (which were constantly pointed out) but you couldn't wish for a more original car. Each to their own I suppose as long as owners don't start telling each other what they should or shouldn't have on their cars.

That's because most of them are registered as a MK2

I agree -
as said before, each to ones own taste I dont like the idea, of building a car, just to please everybody else.
I want my car to suit me, and then - if others think its nice, thats just a added bonus.

That's very true Surf. There seems to be an abundance of so called 'experts' these days who seem to delight in spotting incorrect details. I know of at least two owners of genuine original cars who don't take their cars to shows any more for exactly this reason.
