What spares should you have on the shelf?

If you have a Cooper S and use it, what sort of stock of spares should you have tucked away if you want to avoid frustration when something needs fixing?

I wouldn't stock anything. parts availability is pretty good for new and used parts via the internet these days, so why tie up your money? The only benefit is buying them now may be cheaper than in the future but who knows? Plus sod's law will come into play that says you won't actually have the part you need when something does break!!

Minimans is probably not far off the mark but ....

I would certainly keep a couple of rear wheel cylinder kits in stock. Rear cylinders are terrible for sticking up through lack of use. Sometimes you can get away with just freeing off but other times new seals are required.

Usual service items of course.

That said, I buy anything I see that either I need, may need or know someone else will need, if the price is right

Points, condensers, spark plugs, cap, & rotor... maybe a set of radiator hoses. Beyond that, keep a collection of parts you find interesting and/or want to have for future trading.

I just collect nos spares like bearings, rubber gaiters etc as most the new ones are not as good.
Other than that then if you are on points have spare points and condenser in the car

Oil filter, some oil, brake fluid, bulbs, points & condenser, maybe air filter(s)... focus on expected services and failures (bulbs, etc).
