Can any body tell me if a march 64 1071 should have a straight or angled heater valve.

They are a hard to find part, unfortunately.
Caution that the same design was used on many British 60s cars each with a different body style, so it's really easy to confuse.
There was one on eBay a couple of weeks back, see discussion thread here: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=21000&p=176888
The style you want is in the middle of the tray in the last photo on that thread...
