Ok so here are some of the photos of the shell as its come out of primer, some of the panels weren't as smooth as id have liked, but I didn't want to use filler, so instead used some epoxy primer, or high build filler primer, :?

We then started to dry build the car, good job we did this as the hole in the bulkhead was not big enough to run the split carbs
I also wanted to add a few extra roll cage bars into the rear of the cage, so we'll do this, then we'll remove it to paint afterwards,

how come that you can run a cut bulkhead in a historic rally car?

its not allowed in appendix k racing or hscc class d / e and having a rcae car with one virtually makes the car illegal to run in anything

Always a good idea to do as much dry building as possible, just makes the finished job look a lot nicer, nothing worse than drilling, or grinding a freshly painted shell, we moved the heater across to the left to gain more room, then we fitted the fire extinguisher and battery behind the seats,

To be honest i wondered the same, but because there is proof, in photos, books ect that it was allowed or done back in the day, we are allowed to do it, :D

I remember back in 1973! having the job of cutting the carb to build a
set of split carbs, as my mate could not bring himself to do it.

Hiya - welcome to the forum, welcome to the hrcr rallying, great to see another mini joining us all , joining the split weber crew (although i use all 4 barrels)

Car looks like its going to be a nice thing, just check out your roll cage floor plates with the latest regs before you get to paint.

What class are you running in ?

Hiya Mark, I'm out with Pad4 and Lakeland997 this year, good luck. Not sure how far along the road you are yet, but the plumbed in extinguisher rules change in 2019.

Just giving you the heads up, might as well get the right thing. Good luck

Welcome Mark and good luck with the build it's looking interesting so far.

As Jeff says, there are a couple of us on here who are doing the championship. It was my first year in 2017 so it was a steep learning curve. My car build is detailed elsewhere on the forum.
You probably know but you'll need to get the car inspected to get a competition log book and also they're insisting that you have a historic log book this year, that's just a big form filling (and cheque writing) exercise then send it off with some specific photos. It does take some time to come back but the guy that checks them is also the championship scrutineer so he should prioritise it if necessary.
Did you enter the first round (AGBO) yet?

Cheers, Andy

I think what Paul is saying about the roll cage is that we can't see the plates (the ones with the cage are fine) under the front legs e.g. in this image:

Yes got an entry in for the first round, so really looking forward to that, just 1 more good day to do a few jobs and she'll be ready for paint, then a big push on with the build, was hoping to make the test day in Feb, but think that may be a little tight,

Looks like a good shell. No rain drip rails I note? We used to hack them off I must admit.

I sold my splitties a way back, one of life's regrets I'm afraid.

Looking forward to seeing how it progresses and thanks for sharing ;-)
