well thats the floor&boot floor welded in.
I faffed about leaving the rear bins in as the last full floor I did had the inner sills on, so I could have put it in with the bins in place.
but with a separate inner its impossible so out they came .
will have all the welding finished next week....then blast it all then on to paint shop

I'd have left the floor! My SA car has all the creases and dents, I'm guessing it hit a few rocks and rhinos out there, I liked the originality factor! But, I guess if you're racing you need the strength!
I have put 1/2 floors in my hornet and thought it would be a good idea to plate the floor for the cage before I fitted the floors to the car. Welding in the rear pockets is near impossible . Maybe I should have thought to say earlier . Maybe you did do it.
It may not be as bad as I thought, you won’t have any inner sills in the pocket with that floor.
Looking forward to seeing it at harewood.

Haha.... I had it in my mind that the plates went underneath , anyway although more difficult, I have welded them ok.
Is it an fia stipulation that they are welded on the inside, or the manufacturers preference?
With the front plate being the same size as the plate one the leg, it looks to me that more strenth with a larger plate welded under the car , would be far stronger.
Can be inside or out, but the norm is inside and the sill flutes are then less likely to be in the way (and get crushed). If you have the SD fitting kit I thought (from memory) the plates are bent to turn up the inner sill?
The MSA Blur Book says:
Each mounting foot must be attached by at least three bolts, minimum M8 150 grade 8.8, on a steel reinforcement plate at least 3mm thick and of at least 120cm2 area which is welded to the bodyshell

I put my post on before I thought it through. Your rear pocket area wouldn't have the inner sill as normal. The plate's I've had were angled so they required welded to the floor and up the inner sill. You can imagine how awkward it is, to do a neat job with the pocket there.
I must admit I wouldn't have thought about welding them on the outside but then you don't have any outer sills, I made up my own plates this time, and made them larger than before because the cage came from another car.
finally striped all the paint off...looks like it was original Speedwell blue under the silver and dark blue resprays its suffered .
think Im going to either leave it silver or maybe ice blue met..
put some of the brazing back on ....couldnt get it all off in a few areas so easier to just re braze it.
lots of panel beating required ....lots of small dents which have been filled with filler and some with lead....they obviously dont have any hammers in South Africa...as all the dents have knocked out easily
