subframe meets floor welding.

Hello,

I need to replace the driver and passenger footwells. The area where the subframe meets the floor looks pretty bad (see attached photo). I am just wondering what the general procedure would be. Obviously engine out and drop the subframe but then how do I make sure the new mounting holes are in the correct position? And is there anything I should do to strengthen this area? Thanks,

I'm doing the same work on an associates woody at the moment.
The car is complete ie; a runner and I've left the front subframe in place. The existing mounting holes in the toeboard and stiffener act as good reference points. You will have to take out the mounting bolts/nuts, remove all the crud in that area which will (hopefully) reveal where all the old spot welds are.
Invest in a 8mm Spot weld drill bit, much cheaper on that auction site, and drill out the old spot welds.
Where the floor meets the tunnel you will have to measure where the new floor section best fits (depending on rust) and use a slitting disc to make a cut being careful only to cut through the old floorpan and not the Toeboard.

Excellent response. That sounds straight forward enough. Pics would be great. I think I will need to get on this soon as the MOT is up in June. Much easier if I can leave the subframe in also. Cheers,
