well the bloke who owned this must have worked at a sound deadening factory, it has a layer of deadening then a thick coat of underseal, INSIDE&OUT!.
but he must have just wanted a quiet car as I cant find much rust :?
not sure if the SA 1275 is any use to me?. is it based on an S or have I read that wrong?.

The SA 1300 engine is a bit of a lump really. It's based on the Marina engine and is basically a 1300 with the oil filter head moved to the top of the block. I believe a variation was also used in the Maestro.

As far as I know the SA 1275 doesn't have any S type components in its just a 1300 with the 16T crank & big heavy rods.

A SA 1100 on the other hand has a big bearing GT type crank in it that can be used as a good alternative to the "S" type 1071 crank with a bit of faffing about.

In the early days of Mini Production in SA a lot of the cars seem to have been triple coated with sound deadening. Maybe something to do with how crap a lot of the roads were there in "the olden days".

after removing some of the underseal, the bits that count are in amazingly good order.

looking at the A panel, it had the metal protection panels still fitted. With the underseal removed , you can see it is constructed differently to the later shells .
it looks like one skin. I suppose this is one of the areas that make's the 59/60 shell lighter?.
it also has a 1/2" channel down the pillar, which was filled with a soft mastic, which had certainly stopped it from rusting.in fact I would say these SA shells where miles better protected than the UK cars.

Horribly ironic that these well protected cars were destined for a forgiving climate and ours here rot like pears.

And the rest, no reason a spec like that shouldn't be down in the 68's I reckon. But not if it's using an ATB.

matt clark was into the 68's last time he was at harewood in his 1460, I'm fairly sure that has a quaiffe in it

putting complete floor/boot floor/toe board, more damaged by impacts than rot.
slow work as all the seams are brazed over the spot welds. must have been because of the bad roads!

Looking good and moving along quickly, full floor is a brilliant panel, I am so glad I went that route as it's quicker and easier.
