Hi Steve its not a switch its half an eyebrow p light fitted around the 1 o clock position . All 4 p lights on the early works 850 dash were operated by a rheostat . Hope you are making good progress with your project.

Hi David , hopefully in the next few weeks I will post some pics of the dash up for you , your other two questions I honestly don't know . I have researched extensively the works 850s myself, and a couple of questions I did ask some prominent people who either worked at Abingdon or knew someone who did couldn't give me any answers, unfortunately the 850s are not as well documented as the later cars so perhaps this has put people off replicating one ,I have had a few people contact me since I put my car out there so to speak who are now going to build a works 850 replica for themselves which can only be a good thing , so as far as I am aware mine is the only one at the moment.

With Blyton in mind I thought I ought to get the car out of hibernation today, I've been looking for some seats that are in better condition than my originals but have been unable to find any so over the last few days Nina has managed to refurbish the old ones to hopefully last a bit longer and I must say she has done a better job than I could have. I've also done quite a bit of work on the car in the last 18 months having found more period photos of the works 850's.

For a couple of years now a few mates have been taking the p*** regarding the door numbers not being the correct font for 1959/61 so this weekend I decided to do something about it the 5 is the most awkward number to replicate but it's done now. Also, been looking for a period petrol filler cap I managed to find one a couple of weeks ago I also fitted the door cards at last and while doing these few jobs I noticed my tyres are looking a bit iffy so it looks like another £400 down the swanny!!

As the normal drive is from the front wheels, whenever they spin the distance recorded will be inaccurate. Over the course of a rally this can account for incorrect recorded distance and hence penalty points.
Hence taking a distance drive from a none driven wheel.
