1960 SA MK1

well after looking for a mk1 shell to build a hill climber, this one seemed to fit the bill. its a SA import, so I assumed it wouldnt be too rusty, and thankfully it isnt. but it has had a horrendous make over, with terrible paint work and 1/2 inch of underseal everywhere :x
but every where I have poked it seems solid apart from where it has been jacked up under the drivers floor pan.
wont be able to do much to it yet. but here's some images to be going on with.

obviously I know it should be restored as a rare 1960 car , but other than the shell and running gear, everything else has gone. so I will retain all the early features on the car but wont be puting an 850 in it :lol:

Now that IS A NICE shell!

You are a glutton for punishment aren't you Nick, No sooner do you get one project finished than you are off with the next one :)

I am looking forward to watching your progress on this one as much as i enjoyed your recent S.

Your new SA car, reminds me of my own 59/60 Racer that was also in remarkable condition for it's age. Always a great start, a solid lightweight shell.

What class are you going to run the car in? The de-seaming may cause you problems in the road car class.
Years ago we had to re-seam a 1070 Cooper S before it was allowed in the correct class.

Yes the de-seaming looks good to me, can't see it being a problem at Harewood,?.
I could make some stick on ones if it was :lol:
Looking at it on the ramp, the floor is quiet miss shaped, and badly bashed out, so will probably order a machine floor. Will also save me scraping all the underseal off.

The deseaming won't be an issue if you run in the "usual" classic class C19 at the Vintage & Classic event in June or in Class 6C in a normal event.

Both classes are very easy going & don't really suffer eligibility issues.

Wont be a problem at Shelsley either, I ran against a car with no inner wings and no boot floor last time I was there! :lol:

I had a look at Nick's latest toy yesterday and agree it's very nice. It has lots of similarities to my old 59 CKD car I bought many years ago with 15K miles from new. This one is missing its Blackheath chassis plate but you can see where it used to be on the bulkhead. I actually quite like the deseaming on this one. It even has its 59 air filter box.

Not getting in last year was the luck of the draw.

I'm not that fussed one way or another, but they could have told me a bit earlier, that's what grated.

SA cars were seriously undersealed at the factory, that’s why they still have floors (mostly)
