Re: At The Auctions
Not sure if this has been posted previously. The story says it was sold at auction previously as a 998 Cooper and is now back at auction as a Mk1 S (still with the 998 engine). Whoever bought it was able to ascertain that it was a genuine S so is likely to make a good profit on the sale.

Re: At The Auctions
Also there this '65 SDL, looks slightly restored, estimate £11-13,000
This kind of sale will be a good barometer of how the market it with such a wide range on sale.
The full catalogue can be found at
https://www.brightwells.com/classic-mot ... september/
Period modified Van with 1275 engine and straight cut box, estimate £3-4,000
and finally a Wolseley 1100 Mk3 in need of recommissioning, no reserve

Re: At The Auctions
Pity the 1300 has the AP Shiteomatic trans - had it been a manual I'd have had a bid on that. I may need another 1300 in my life soon.

Re: At The Auctions
This to me is more interesting (and rare) than any of the usual Cooper/S suspects. It's pretty rare being Tahiti blue with the stripes seats/black grille rather than the later Pageant blue. The TDA plate in Birmingham issue. These later 1000's with the 1.5" SU were pretty lively - I had one like this (with silver grille and plain vinyl seats), JAF576N.
The Rokee dash/console and Feu Orange air freshener only add to the appeal.

Re: At The Auctions
I've already had a couple - an Aqua 1970J Austin 1300 4 door was my first car.
I like these late model Wolseleys as well - I tried to buy one 5-6 years ago, an L reg one in mallard green with the rod change box and pot joints. It drove really well but was too much coin for the rust it had.
How long before we can start talking about early Series 1 Allegros? 1300 Super fully quartic'd up in Harvest Gold. I've always had an illness for the 18/22 Series.

So you keep saying! You're turning into Private Frazer!
There's certainly a few pretty poorly restored flatpacks around that aren't selling so quickly that's for sure.
Re: At The Auctions
That bitsa sold today at Brooklands for a good price, £9500 plus commisssion. There's hope for Rich yet.
https://www.historics.co.uk/buying/auct ... ification/
Also the Mk1 S sold for £34500 plus commission
https://www.historics.co.uk/buying/auct ... -i-1275cc/
The ex Britt Ekland Rover Mini made £6500 on the hammer.
Only 50% of the cars in the sale sold under the hammer, which would suggest that sellers are still being greedy with their reserves and the market is slowing. All the Minis in the sale sold though, so I guess that's one good thing.

Re: At The Auctions
I was listening live and it was bid to £9500. Maybe the buyer suddenly got cold feet or the auction house employs off the wall bids!
Due to unforeseen circumstances the buyer has asked for us to sell this vehicle for him, please call Mathew on

Re: At The Auctions
Having had a look through all the classic car lots, i would say that there was now evidence of a distinct softening in the whole classic car market, not just Minis.

Nice looking original one owner Clubman Estate, estimate £4,500-£5,500 Sold £5,500
'66 S with some competition history, estimate £38-42,000 Sold £32,000
Very low mileage '77 1000 Saloon complete with stripy seats, estimate £7-9,000 Sold £8,200

Also there this '65 SDL, looks slightly restored, estimate £11-13,000 Not Sold
Period modified Van with 1275 engine and straight cut box, estimate £3-4,000 Sold £4,600
Wolseley 1100 Mk3 in need of recommissioning, no reserve Sold £500
They also sold a low mileage 1990 Mini City E Auto for £8,000
All prices are hammer, commission is 10% plus VAT on commission.
Maybe top end cars are dipping in price but low mileage honest cars are still strong and Minis are still popular amongst buyers.
