Hello to all,
I am currently in the process of puting the metal back on my 1964 cooper so thought I'd start a thread..
It is pretty original with most of its original trim and major parts, though at some time early in its life it had a factory replacement engine..tweaked it a little, and for a 998 its fun..to 60..
I have had the car for 9 years, running it weekly for the first 6 years, then decided to take off some unsightly spats that had been fillered on..unfortunately, one front arch decided to remain with the spat as it was removed, as did some of the rear quarter bodywork, as seen in the pics.
It became clear that it suffered a fair wallop in the drivers side rear corner at some time, and that a filler engineer had done a fair job to hide the fact, on closer inspection with a screwdriver most of the rear quarter fell off..
It has remained dormant as a stripped shell till this year. I have started cutting away..slowly the offending items and am trying to spend as much time as I can on it, with the hope of shows next summer..
Currently the front panel and wings are off, as is the rear quarter (see my request for tips in tech talk ' bracing tips')
I'll post pics of it, in its current state, this weekend..

Love it, absolute classic colour and interior, bet it smell lilke a proper Mini too.

Looks to be a great little project you have there.
Love the colour scheme. (I'm not biased, honest guv) and the interior looks the business.
With regards to bracing when doing the rear quarter, if you keep the rear subframe in and the car is on flat level ground the repair panel should line up with all the adjoining panels ok.
If in doubt take a few measurements from the other side and compare lengths / fit.
Take the strain off the floopan by putting a length of hefty timber under the seat crossmember and jack the car up a bit making sure the car stays reasonably level.
Keep an eye the door gap on the B pillar.

I have had to take the sad decision to part with my mk1 1964 cooper project in this thread. I do not take the decision lightly, but heh,thats life.. a nice genuine car.
The car is currently as seen in the pictures attached, I have the repair panels for the rear quarter and side, part boot panel(doesnt need to be replaced), and part wheel arch. The front will need minor repairs to the inner wings (where they held the front panel), front panel and wings. Perfectionists may remove other small patches in the footwells to tidy the shell, but its pretty solid all round..
Originally a tweed grey car, I have all the interior and exterior fittings, seats dash etc,. the interior was painted green grey by the last owner but the paint is removed easily and without any damage to the seats or panels.
The engine is a factory period replacement 998 cooper with 3 syncro box. Engine and box were good prior to it coming off the road. Mileage was 67k when sorned.
I have a set of 4 LP 883 wheels that will go with the car (i know they dont fit the cooper without spacers, but was going to upgrade to s brakes) they need a blast and paint.
Now the painful bit. I am looking for 6500 for the car.
With 2500 spent on it , it will be a 10-11k car.
I am in the South derby area and would appreciate contact via 'pm' with any interested buyer.
No tyre kickers please, its difficult enough a decision for me to sell it as it is.
I thought I would offer it here first before advertising in MiniWorld to a wider audience.

For the sharp eyed amongst you, the 4x LP883's are hung on the wall not the rims fitted on the car..
