But... When grinding them down (as I had to) remove metal from the backside. The bronze layer was extremely thin ;)

And fit them the right way round . Steel back to the block , Bronze to the crank .

What's needed to fit a S-crank into a 1300 block?

You just thin down std ones to fit S crank in a 1300 block .

Need to loose about 0.030" if everything is STD .

I normally clean up the bearing face first to get it flat , then take the rest off the back ( steel ) side

I've started doing this as well, as the thrust faces are extremely uneven nowadays.

Crank re - nitrided and reground at Farndon,s with perfect 0.090" fillet radius .

Well use a crank with good fillet radius (but undersize ) against someting reground by a "moron" to 10/10 with no radius everytime .

I know which one will brake first

Hey 251, I thought you'd be grinding your own cranks by now?

Or are you to scared to go near that big heavy machine now?

Hi Graham

Had that crank done years ago .

Got the grinding sorted now , done about 30 cranks now , can keep a good size with nice finish and radius , but I am slow at the moment .

Done a Healey 3000 for a change .
