Will do Ted. This weekend hopefullyTedwong wrote:Hi Steve, seems your U-loop is too high, and my loop is too wide?
Any chance to have some pics?
I'm planning to cut at the middle and weld back, and you may need shorten the legs.

Re: John Aley roll bar
I was under the impression (maybe incorrect) that the works cars never had John Aley clamps, they had the ones John copied marked Simplex Cambridge.
They, as far as I am aware, suited to a 35mm (1 3/8") diameter tube.
In order to get the Simplex to this size they have reducers welded in.

Re: John Aley roll bar
Mine on the photos certainly looks as it's an alley cage ( with padding around it?)
At present it has a fia cage installed.
I wish to put it back correct.

Re: John Aley roll bar
The Simplex clamps look identical to the Aley ones, only the markings are different.
All the pictures I have seen of works cars where you can see the clamp 'in period' do not appear to have the very distinctive John Aley on the clamp.
The Simplex Cambridge is very indistinct and not well defined on the ones I have.

Re: John Aley roll bar
Does anyone have the pipe dimensions of the Work's cages. I have heard 1 1/4" and also 1 1/2" but the above post suggests 1 3/8". I have seen Simplex brackets with the reduction sleeves but are they for a bar or their original purpose?
Cheers.

Re: John Aley roll bar
The original Simplex parts were for holding livestock fencing up.
They were cast to suit 1 5/8" fence pole which is pretty much the O.D. of the reducing sleeve.
It would not make sense (to me anyway) to cast something for a job which normal casting tolerances would cover and then add cost to it by welding in additional parts. I would just cast it the right diameter in the first place. So I am relatively certain this was an add on and not the intended fencing purpose.
Still, could be wrong there, been wrong before....
