AKY 188B Morris Cooper 1071 'S'

Post by coopertim »

Evening all

With a really heavy heart i have had to make a very difficult decision over the last few weeks due to financial pressures and i decided that AKY had to go to a new home. It was after i looked at the rusty remains of my 'S' and realised that it was going to take a hell of a lot of cash to give the car the new lease of life which it deserved....cash that i don't have. The car has passed to a really nice bloke who has a passion for classic cars and who was not phased by the amount of crumbling brown stuff present on collection!!

I can now concentrate on EBJ which will make a cracking car with loads of history, but i will i think always regret letting my S go.

Tim.

Hi Tim....

Sorry to read that  .. I hope you will get another S some time.. But a good choise to sell at to some one that would bring it back to what it was, and not sell it into parts just for the money.

Best regards from René

The chap who bought AKY is certainly a true enthusiast who has his own ideas on how he wants the car to look and perform. He is in a much better position to give the Cooper the attention it needs.

Meanwhile, EBJ will now benefit from some of the panels acquired and is due to disappear shortly to the body shop for much less surgery!!!!

Thanks for the kind words Tim. I could see that I was nearly taking a part of you when we were leaving with the car. I hope the few bob will help to put your EBJ back on the road and soften the pain, should be really nice when you get it finished.
I will continue your good work and will give updates on the AKY restoration post. Stripped the engine and box on Sunday and was happy to find everything is original and in good condition. Only needed 3 cans of WD40 to open all the nut and bolts :-) only one bolt sheered which was the heater valve stud! :-(
Will post photos when I get my broadband back running.

Hi Tim,

Sometimes discretion is the better part of valour!

I know that you will regret selling your S, but at the same time I have had just as much fun & attention in non S Mini's and any reader on here will know that I'm not a great fan of paying way over the odds for a tuned Mini just cos it has an S badge. I look forward to seeing your progress on your other car!

Nev, I'm thrilled that Tims S has gone to a good home & take my hat off to you for taking on such a massive project. Speaking as someone who is currently in deep .. . . .welcome to S hell!

Cheers for the encouragement Mark.

Im sure i will have as much enjoyment in EBJ as it is not going to be a concours queen - just a nice mildly tuned 850 to chuck about and add to when funds allow :D

Yes thanks for the Encouragement Mark its going to be a long road but should be fun if you are a afflicted by the mk1 mini bug. I think we should set up a help Line for us mk 1 crazies thats what my wife reckons anyway and I haven't told her about AKY yet! Do you think she would notice the difference between island blue and surf blue as my 1275 is island blue ;)
Has anyone found a cure for the dreaded tin worm that seams to love the BMC metal

Hi Steve,
You have a pm.

Funny you say that and I know the reputation the Mini's got as a rotbox but it's amazing how many really early cars have survived unrestored/ intact, there seem to be heaps of very solid early 60's cars still coming out of the woodwork. Having said that if they'd all been stored like 'AKY' had been we'd be sweeping them all up !
