Great idea boys, good venues down South (Hills), BARC's Gurston Down in Wiltshire, Wiscombe Park in Devon, (Sprints) Castle Combe in Wilts, Clay Pidgeon in Dorset.

The classics in the Midlands, Shelsey and Prescott.

Plus the Sprints at Goodwood that Brighton and Hove hold, not so much part of an historic event, but an historic location

Pete Shelsley is getting very popular and they were oversubscribed this year. I'm a member and happy to speak to them if needed.

I will be up for this as a bit of fun given the car is an 850. I will keep an eye on venues for next year.

In two weeks on 15th July Lydden has been booked by four clubs that have all clubbed in to hire the circuit at quite an expense. I'm sure something like what you are proposing will be of interest in 2018 should they do it again, as they are always looking for numbers to make the hire viable.

Although well subscribed an event like Crystal Palace has an odd class structure based on era e.g. pre-1970, so it might be worth approaching the organisers to see if this class could be introduced. In previous years I have been up against a GT40 and RS2000 rally car...

A lot of "Classic 7 Historic" classes seem to be run on this very informal basis.

the first year Rich & I did the harewwod Classic, we had the following in our class.

Wolseley Hornet
Cooper
Cooper S
Triumph Herald rally Car
Road Standard Jensen Interceptor

Yeah that's no good, it's all a bit of fun, but you at least want to be up against similar capacities etc.

I don't agree, it makes no odds to me.

I'll always find someone I'm close to, to compete with & capacity isn't everything.

As a matter of interest that particular year finished

Mini Cooper
Wolseley Hornet
Cooper S
Triumph Herald
Jensen Interceptor.

your missing the bigger picture with that particular event as well

the guy who had the Jensen 'won' as his car was just in beautiful condition, he also had a fantastic looking daughter

the guy in the herald 'lost' as he thought he was going to win and was in a bit of a huff when the minis beat him

the guy with the smallest engine mini won (and got the class record!)

was a really good day out!

I agree with Mark too.

You start off trying to beat you own best time anyway, before you pick your
nemesis/nearest rival.

You may be a crap driver (like me) in the best car (not me) and have a blast against the bottom of the field,

(I get my arse kicked everytime I go Karting so I need some lessons)

but throughout the year you'll at least learn about your lack of talent, probably a little frustrated mind but still enjoying yourself along the way.

Generally I find those with the best cars don't necessarily have a skilful driver piloting them.
Well at least until they pay for some lessons. :D

Sounds just the thing - had some great fun pitting my 1293 rally car against a 1380 track car at Blyton - two totally different animals but it became a great battle - so yea you have your own little races to win

Tyres are a concern though if you go road legal (although pre whatever cars dont have to follow this) - the heavy rally car woud see a set of dunlops or yokos off in a couple of laps at Blyton so please dont restrict tyre choice

And Noooo to driving them to an event - id be def, crippled and high as a kite by the time i got anywhere

As I said it's all a bit of fun, and capacity isn't everything, but even for this Speed Challenge you are suggesting A-series blocks etc, so I guess all cars will have some common ground.

Is the idea of a forum organized challenge still on the cards or is there not enough interest ?

It is still being worked on, but due to the MSA tightening up on informal challenges it is proving more difficult that we expected.
