Bumpers...

Post by Jamie »

Hi
I need to buy a new set of bumpers and overiders, mini spares have been out of stock for a little while now, and after speaking to them again this week it still looks like they wont have any for a while yet.
Has anyone bought a bumper set off anyone else recently? and would recommend or not recommend a supplier?
My car is nearly finished but i dont have any bumpers for it....just wondered if someone else has been having the same problem.
thanks
Jamie

I got a pair of stainless ones from W&P. They had crinkled ends and I had to make the mounting holes bigger to get them to fit. Also one of the bolts became detached from the bumper when I removed it a few months later.

There is as far as I am aware no easy solution to this. It is highlighted by the astronomical price of usable second hand ones.

Thanks guys, i think i am going to have to drive round a few mini parts suppliers and have a look at some instead of ordering off the net.

shame about the W+P ones they are just down the road from me.

The only bumpers that fit the rear properly, that I have used, are genuine rover bumpers. The current shape has a turned in edge at the end thats not authentic looking. They are stainless steel. But they do fit!

If you bought new genuine bumpers you could sell them when you got your MS set.

I don't know if the MS bumpers are made by the original supplier/manufacturer it would be interesting to know?

There are Chinese made ones available here and often advertized on Trademe. The pressing quality and shape is reasonable but three metric bolts are used and the chrome is soft and is subject to surface scratches. One would assume them to be available to UK suppliers too.

I should've mentioned that I got mine from W&P almost 3 years ago, they may have changed supplier now.

Whilst on the subject of bumpers. Is it possible to use 'normal' bumpers and convert them to be used with over riders/corner bars?
