As Photobucket has lost my Goodwood album in my library and the pictures no longer show up on my Photobucket page, I am testing another hosting site for usability. So lets try Flickr. Well uploading does not work from Internet Explorer, so that's a waste of time. However pictures will up load from Google Chrome. Navigating the site and getting the pictures into an album was a bit of a faff, it took two goes for them to upload, and then I had to select them to put them in an album, more faffing about.
Now lets see if the pictures can be put on the forum
Well after a few attempts the only way is to share the whole album as a link, it is not possible to embed a slide show on to the forum or put a slideshow link onto the forum.
To view a slide show you need to click on the icon in the red circle after opening the album page.

Flickr is not as good as Photobucket when it comes to linking pictures and albums. All the file names change when they are uploaded, I now have to open each picture and copy the embed code for each one. With Photobucket I used to just copy and paste one code and just change the numbers to match my file numbers.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
A quicker way is for me to leave all the external links with the embed code, something I do not like to do as it makes access to all my pictures very easy.
What I have noticed with Flickr is you can see all the picture details including what camera, the settings and the photo editing software I have used.
When I have more time I might try another hosting site. I am open to suggestions, however it must have a large amount of free storage (Flickr gives you 1TB) as I have a habit of loading up a few hundred pics at a time.
I also need to sort a picture hosting site out as you say Stu photobucket is definately phooked and runs at a snail's pace now. Its stopped a few people posting pictures I'm sure. Will give Flickr a shot.
I'm still working my way round Flickr to find easier options for uploading. The site is not that intuitive. You upload the pictures then you have to click on another button to publish them, otherwise the time you spent watching the pictures upload is wasted when you navigate away from the page without doing that. Also I found the album creation part a bit odd, but I've sussed that out.
I'm still hoping that Photobucket will get their act together as it has got better in the last few months, but they have had a problem with loosing peoples pictures and albums for some reason, my guess is they have changed servers and that were the stuff has been lost. Photobucket is easier to use than Flickr when it works. It is also easier to link pictures and slideshows as the file names are related to the original picture file names.
Checked out imgur. Looks a good site and it's free. Unfortunately there's a limit of 50 images per IP address per hour, OK if you are only loading a few images, but I sometimes load 300 or more at one time so it's no good for me.
I might go to image shack but that costs $3.99 a month.
I use an app on the phone with Flickr (FlickrStackr) which is pretty good to use. The downside as you mention is all the filenames are different, so the BBCode from each photo needs to be copied over and I also delete the extra linking code. I normally upload all images as "private" so you cannot see them from my Flickr account unless I share them via bbcode. There is a setting to hide EXIF data if you like, and any photos taken on a phone etc can upload the GPS location tag too, so make sure it's off or people will find out where you are
It would be nice to be able to turn off the linking code and copy an album full of images at once...
I am sticking with Photobucket for now. They are still looking for my lost album, but I have reloaded some of the pictures already. The functionality has improved over the last couple of months and they have had some issues with file loss.
My main problem is I have been using photobucket for a number of years, paying a subscription for a larger amount of storage (44% used), so if I close my account there will be a lot of threads on this and other forums where all the pictures will vanish. I do not see much point in starting another paid for storage site when I can still use the one I have. I have Flickr as a back up though and that's free.
