I rather like "Mini Mouse" a very nice period piece. I only hope it keeps all its goodies when it gets a new owner.

been giving my eyes a bit of a rest, so got a load of stuff powder coated and had a bit of a change.

reamed the arms out and fitted new pins (but saved & reused the metal tubes) and got all the brakes built up.

i had to use some other back plates as the originals where so ratty, but i even stripped the original brass cased bearings down and cleaned and refitted them.

was pleased to note that the back drums are dated from the day they where cast - one is dated 1961, so i assume that its been swopped at some time, either that or BMC had a massive stock of drums!

the other is dated 2 / 2 / 64, so just under two months before the car was registered, its also exactly ten years older then me!




arms all done, bar the handbrake quadrants, the sharpe eyed may notice that the handbrake levers are painted EP3A green, but that was the only spray i could find - it will do for now!



nice to do a clean job for once that didnt involve rust and despair!

As the TC has 4 1/2 'S' rims on it, has it got spacers fitted all round? and what thickness are they. I'm going to fit the same wheels on EBJ while i save up for my Rose petals and i'm going for 145's as i reckon they give a nicer profile. What do you think?

to fit 4 1/2 S rims on my 850. i had to make a 3/8 inch spacer, for the rear (i machined an S drum down). this was just to get the rim clear of the trailing arm.
it worked fine, but i couldn't fit 165 tires. and if my 145/80's were a little low on pressure then they would rub on hard corners.
how-ever the front end was fine.

i've since cured the problem by using reverse rims

probably beyond repair, it needs a skin, trough, bottom and this awkward inner frame repair.




made a start on the drivers side inner wing, was hoping to patch it, but its easier/more economic to use a full inner wing.

fired up the plasma and cut the bigger bits out to be able to get in with the spot weld drill and a hammer



not much left



cut the scuttle corner off (the whole thing will be swopped later) to get into the top of the inner wing. more rot found - not a surprise....



looks as if it will fit ok.......

Some people are just too clever by half, the man who worked on his own garage next to where I used to work was a wizard with engines, I was forever sticking my head round the door to see what he was up too, one day there was a Suburu with all the engine in bits, parts everywhere, you must have done a few of these says I, first one he says, I gulp he laughs, its only nuts and bolts and proceeds to reassemble the engine without any sort of manual, finished in the afternoon and running beautifully.

It would appear Guru that you have the same skill with bodywork, great work, you both make me sick...... (joke, honest)

Thats ok then - I will try fitting without spacers for a start. I've found a new set of India 145's at a very reasonable price. ( it helps when your dad's in the trade!!!) I ran a set of India's on my 998 Cooper a few years back and they were cracking tyres. If i need to i will add the 3/8 spacer at the rear.

The TC's coming on fast now Rich....time to start thinking about the next one!!

peter, i have no real skill, theres plenty of sitting and thinking time as well.

its those boys that can make the panels themselves out of flat bits of tin that have the real skills!
