Race Retro

Post by mk1 »

Did anyone go?

I was planning on doing so, but circumstances conspired against me & it never happened.

Any reports would be much appreciated.

Took 4 year old son. Managed to see Swifty and Carol at U2TC before he got bored and we had to go home after about 90 minutes

Should've expected this really :?

I went on the Sunday, getting in was a complete nightmare. Due to the wet conditions cars were being packed at the side of all the roads around the site. But, they decided to take the maney before you parked, so I spent 1/2 hour in the traffic. They were even taking card payments on the side of the road! I don't think the organisers were prepared for poor weather.

Once in the show was a bit small. Looked at swifty's stand, mooched around for a while chatted some and then left.

Our works had a stand there over the weekend. Saturday afternoon they started to turn the public away because of the conditions in the carparks. People were still getting towed out at 8:00pm  Hall 2 had no heating so our guys had four days in the cold  Glad I stayed home in the garage.

Sounds like a new venue is required, they can hardly not expect wet conditions in the car parks in February. Or July for that matter !

Gave it a swerve this year, some pics here though....

I was disappointed with the show and thought something was definitely lacking. For the first time watched the Rally Stage on Saturday with Mickey Mouse. The Merc had trouble keeping it on the black stuff but Russell Brookes and Jimmy McRae were clearly enjoying themselves and at one point on the track at the same time! On the positive side it was good to meet and talk to friends as I wandered round the halls. Hall 4 was much colder than Hall 2! The auction on Saturday was interesting - as a spectator! I don't think I'll bother with the show next year. It will be interesting to read the show reports.

The Lancia Aurelia is one that we prep' & support for the historic Monte. They would have had a bit more damage if the wooden armco hadn't done its job so well :o

Been regularly for the past few years, this year was dissappointing and felt we'd seen everything by 3.30. The new setting for the rally stage is not as good as the original track, too Mickey Mouse and point and squirt without good opportunities to get the tail out! £20 entry as well on a prebooking - hmm.

Bids got to £60K apparently but didn't sell.

Sounds more than a fair price, there again not sure what would come off with commission etc.

I was planning to fly over to UK and stay with a friend of mine on wednesday. Do some drinking, shopping, lieing and got to RR. Ryanair and a car from Hertz was booked, but then the carpenters came the day befor my department  So I had to stay home and keep an ear and aye on them building my new workshop/garage :D
