Maniflow manifold sizes

Post by tomkidd »

Gents

I've bought a 2" system (centre section and backbox) off eBay which when I offered up to my maniflow phase II manifold, the Y piece is too small in the 2" centre section by about quarter of an inch, far too much to close up with exhaust clamps.

So I needed a manifold for a 2" system, which I have bought off eBay after asking the seller if it was ok for the 2" system... It has arrived and its exactly the same as my phase II.

They are insistent that it will fit a 2" system but it just seems far too small. The manifold website really isn't that clear about tube sizes so i wondered if any of you guys have any experience of the different pipe sizes.

Cheers Tom

tom

the phase 2 is the same as the normal manifold - designed to work with 1" 7/8 pipe sizes.

the 2" manifold is big money and only really suited to 1400 and above (and 120bhp)

i guess you could cobble up a sleeve to drop the exhaust down to suit the manifold, but you would probably be better buying the correct size and flogging the 2" on

Have I been sold another 1 & 7/8" manifold? And is 1 & 7/8"s the size I need to quote they have sold me?

if the 'y' piece has slots cut in it then its a 1" 7/8th manifold

if the 'y' piece has no slots, its a 2"

on the 2" stuff the link pipe fits over the lcb (so the down pipe has the slots), probably because its for ultimate performance, so there is no change in the internal pipe size, where as on the 1" 7/8 the down pipe fits inside the lcb, so the 'y' has the expansion slots.

simples, the problem is that because one is using an 'innie' measurement, and the other is an 'outie', the pipe difference is actually more than you think as you have to account for the thickness of the pipe as well.
