But you can get a heritage cert with the info on that v5 and 40 quid
Correct, so where is it??! If it comes back as a Cooper 998 or worse you'd be pretty cheesed off and want your £7500 back!
Probably in his kitchen drawer along with the old buff log book so he can sell it as another 'project' in a years time

£7.5k for a reg doc. That's utterly insane.

We must be getting to the point now where there are more Ss in existence than at any point, even the 60s!

If you look in detail at the stats on 'how many left' you will see the gradual decline of normal Minis (especially Supers and SDL) and an apparent levelling or increase in numbers of Coopers and S. The same might be said for any migration of Cooper to S.

It would make part of a a good degree dissertation for someone. Or has it been done already? I bet DVLA are aware of it.

Don't understand that. If people are building cars from logbooks as they surely are then we won't end up with more than they made, just more Cooper Ss and maybe less 850s. And if the logbook cars sell for £40K+ when they're done then surely the original £7.5K for the logbook was a decent investment. Bearing in mind the only difference between a £40K+ restored flatpack Mk1 Ss and a restored Mk1 850 is a £5K S engine/box, a £400 S speedo, a £500 set of S discs, wheels, a servo and a £1600 set of Newton trim. If we take it that a restored 850 is about £12K that makes that S logbook (if it is one) worth about £20K! So is £7.5K really "utterly insane"?

Just playing devil's advocate here but you can see what I'm getting at, flatpack Ss are pretty profitable!
