1965 Austin Mini 850 Super Deluxe

Post by coopertim »

Evening all.

I thought you may be interested in my latest project and one which will be on the road a long time before AKY!!
EBJ 756C is a Tweed Grey Austin Mini 850 Super Deluxe in amazing original condition. The car comes with a very comprehensive history file including the original log book and service / maintenance receipts going back to 1969. The Mini has only done 46,000 miles and is in truly amazing condition - still on crossply tyres!! :o It has obviously had very careful owners one of which was a Doctor who purchased the car from its original owners in 1967 and kept it until some time in the late 80's. EBJ was registered in Norfolk on July 9th 1965 and remained in the county until i purchased it last week.
Immediate plans are to get the car back on the road as soon as. It needs repairs to the inner wings, a small amount of patching on the floor and boot floor and new 'A' panels. I am going to fit 'S' wheels and a nice period steering wheel. I would love to fit a tuning conversion to the engine - maybe Alexander or Speedwell? just to up the performance a little. More pictures to follow.

Cheers. Tim

It was advertised on here about a month ago Steve. Went down to Suffolk the next day and couldn't beleive how nice a car it was. The Webasto did it for me really though. The interior is fantastic - the Tartan Red goes really well with the grey. Hopefully it will be my transport down to Bulee!!

that looked a good buy tim, i thought it was a shame that the previous owner was prepared to break it, but i guess tatty old mk1's are worth more in bits and many people dont give a fig about the history of the individual cars.

its good to see that more people are prepared to spend a bit of time and money saving std shabby cars to enjoy for what they are.

good effort.

feel free to add some speed stripes if you wish! 8-)
please note, these are my own, individual sales, nothing whatsoever to do with my employer, minispares

thats a cracking project you found there.
as above it's nice to find a mk1 that hasn't been stripped. but its a sad fact that mk1s are rusty little buggers.

folks just want to do as little work as possible i suppose but i think you take more car of them when you nurture and fettle withthe original shell... ( even though there isn't that much original when your finished usually.)

well done i'll keep an eye on your progress.

Thanks for the comments guys

EBJ is definately worth saving as it is such an original car - i cant beleive it was going to be broken either. In the history file there is a plastic yellow Duckhams wallet with reciepts and headed note paper that the doctor put there in 1969 detailing which garages fleeced him - in his opinion  It wont take much to get the car back on the road as it has new sub frames already and a brand new set of Hi-Lo's.

I will keep you posted on my progress and hopefully the car will get me down to Bulee in June!!!

What a great looking project. 8-)
You don't get many in that condition nowadays. Even better having all that history.

Really nice project. Congratulations!! It's also my idea to put some reverse wheels on my 850. Are you thinking in what kind of conversion? An Alexander head with double HS2??
2 Mk1 and 1 Mk2 to restore...

Something like that. I used to have a '66' 850 in Almond Green which was converted by Alexander from new - head, rocker cover and twin stromberg carbs with pancake filters.

The strip down has finally started and it has to be said that the car looks a lot healthier than AKY did at this stage!!! There is evidence of the rear end shunt from 1967 under the rear lights and creasing over the rear wheel arch.

Gorgeous 4.5 J 'S' wheels painted in the correct shade of Old English White ready for the new tyres to be fitted on Friday. I will be running them without hub caps to give a light competition look. :D
