Re: JMO 969D
Maybe my memory is fading but didn't it have a M A2S7 prefix on it when it was first put up for auction?rich@minispares.com wrote:that chassis plate is a cracker...............
The one where it was stated it did not have the JMO registration number but it could be applied for?
I was thinking about the car and the current condition and wondering what it would be best to do with it.
Option one would be strip it and rebuild it as it was on one of the rallies it competed on but then it would lose all its 'evolution' that has happened since it left Abbingdon which now is part of the history of the car. It would still not be the 'works' car.
Option two would be to leave it as it is and accept it for what it is which is a 'works' registration on a privately prepared and run car and not try to tell people it is something it is not.
Option three would be to get the red paint off it and return it to surf blue but put back together exactly how it is because that is how it has evolved.
I think I would go for option three but sadly money is involved so this would be the most unlikely to occur.

Re: JMO 969D
The original auction link still works, it has the same "850926" listed as the chassis number as the current listing.

Mk1 forum has the chassis number mentioned here too from last year

Sorry Tim, neither of those listings are the one I'm thinking of. It had a picture of a hand stamped chassis plate by the radiator (not reverse stamped) with the letters M A2S 4 - ****timmy201 wrote:The original auction link still works, it has the same "850926" listed as the chassis number as the current listing.

Re: JMO 969D
I was there but didn't hang around for JMO. I was told by 2 people it went for £40+ fees. But with its record at all the Coys auctions it might be all hot air and might not have sold. I did find it strange that the Reg number was not on the boot. I didn't get to look at the front as the place was black with onlookers. If it did sell the buyer would probably have her LOOKING like a Works car for £60-70

Hi Pete
sadly not me. You are close but it's not my place to make that info public.
Like all rally cars its seen some life, however it's a great peace of motorsport history

Well it sounds like it may have gone to a good home, be nice to see it out and about, hope it's stayed in U.K., and whatever is said it is a piece of Motorsport history

Yep, despite what's been said about it, some of it justified, one thing it isn't is a cock and bull story (though the auction description was!).

Re: JMO 969D
According to the March Classic & Sports Car article about 14th January auction "Also boasting competition history was a works 1966 Mini Cooper S that had been driven in period by Paddy Hopkirk & Timo Makinen, albeit without any notable success. In the same hands for 30 years, the Mini went for £49,900 (£40-£60,000)." The results page also states £49,900 so maybe costs on top! The 1964 racer is quoted as £34,500.
