We have just had an email declining an entry for Whizzo/me for this years PoP. I thought we had put a good show on last year . Never mind more funds for the racing.

Yup no entry for me in the Hornet either, 50th anniversary for the Cooper and Elf/Hornet too ! They have however been kind enough to offer me a run on the parade ,a paddock pass and some grub for £120. You can imagine what my reply was, second word was 'off' just to give you a clue. I'll take my free passes for the MCR club stand instead and all are welcome to come along 15-17 July, just let me know.

Corporate hospitality income are 3 words which come to mind. Surely it is the enthusiastic classic car club members and their cars which draw the crowds especially if they're on the "track." Has Whizzo lost his touch? I'm also posting a comment on the Race Retro thread as I thought it was me; glad I'm not alone.

That seems odd in the extreme, that said it's the same show that asks for help/feedback, I offer both towards the rally orientated machines (even to the point of lining up a Focus WRC) and nadda...nothing...zilch...

To turn Whizzo away who's supported the event since number 1 is a real kick in the teeth surely?

I cant understand these people, surely they know that they are killing the very event they are trying to create??

I'm no famous driver (but my mum loves me!) but the first year I was suposed to be running my car, I was accepted, organised a few things (Trailer, tart the car up nd shift around a few personal things) and then informed that I had be replaced by a "Works" mini...apparently.

I hope it isn't being turned into a old boys club...

And here's me thinking it was a public event, promoting motorsport for all!!

What happened last year (and I suspect will this) was I got an email one week before the event asking if I can find a car for Whizzo despite Andy's car being offered in the first place ! He may be in a different car for all I know, I'll find out tomorrow. The promo film on the CPOP website features some in-car footage of Whizz going through the chicane last year, looks like he's completely out of control ! . Yes any promoter worth his salt would invite him even if he was on a pushbike.
I have to say I have tried to help them out over the years, as Bryn says but it's hard work getting through. I did sort them out with James Martin last year, maybe this is payback !

...which has been there every year. Fair enough people want to see famous cars if they are offered but yes the old boys club does look to be alive and well down at Chumly.

The only little erk i have is that we put on a good show last year and people commented on it especially Whizzos runs. Maybe they will change there mind but who knows.Well we have other things to look forward to. Can you count me in for a ticket Pete and i will bring the Acespeed Minivan out for an airing.

Maybe we need to bring in more celebs...trouble is the only one I know round here is Ian Brown and I'm not sure anyone would let him loose behind the wheel of a quick mini!!

I did, Gordon Spice last year, Whizz and Rhodes the year before when the commentator completely ommitted to mention his name as he went round the track in Mike's fuel injected car. We've done press days for them and all sorts.

You can support events like this,( and for a northern event it is unique and well worth supporting) but you'll only get so far with them. It's run on a much broader basis than FOS for example and by office staff who've never heard of these drivers. It's like a huge country show with fast cars. I think Alan Partridge would be more up their street.
Andy's right about Whizz though, he was the star of the show last year. Have you anymore of the in-car footage Andy ?

Well they wanted to create the Goodwood of the north, and going off the prices and the way they treat clubs...there getting there!!

Still, if you break it down by day it almost makes you feel better (a bit) and Goodwood charge £45 a day!!

Is it extra for the camping?

Update on camping- its cheaper if booked as a club (£45 as opposed to £80 for the 3 days.)

Think I will still be doing this, despite the charge's.

From their point of view they have 85 clubs wanting to go (!!!) and in some respects that could be seen as a 'free for all'. The clubs side has expanded as more and of them have seen free tickets as the main reason to go, eg. there was one Mini club there the first year(MCR), last year there were four and no doubt this year there could be six.
POP have to make profit somewhere and this they see as a big loss maker , clubs don't bring many paying punters in. Goodwood (both the Revival and F.O.S) do OK without any clubs at all.

SO...I'd say they have a good point and are offering 60% discount across the board for clubs instead. I'll bet there's alot don't bother going but I definately will as it's still a very cheap day (night) out.

Where I don't agree with 'em on the other hand is tickets on the day for two adults and two kids amount to a stonkin £80 , I think they've priced themselves out of the market with that deal.
