GFL 50D. 998 mini in 1967 monte carlo rally #22
I am helping a young lad to do a homework project on a chosen topic.
He has chosen to find out as much as possible about a 998 Mini, GFL 50D entered as #22 on the 1967 Monte Carlo Rally
Entered by Roy and Michael Pinder, but DNF on the event for some reason.
It looks as though it still exists on the DVLA database, but off the road for many years.
He has not chosen more famous Works Minis because information on those are plentiful. This one is a bigger challenge.
Any further information, especially photographs, anecdotes, etc would be much appreciated.

Sure I've got a shot of that car, if not Steve Enty will.

998 Cooper and, since homologation has just been discussed at length elsewhere on here, it must have been hydrolastic. Group2, Class 1, if entry data is correct. Dover starter.

400+ pages of photos of Monte Carlo Rally - have a feeling one photo of it is somewhere in there.
The Pinders were regulars on the Monte and some other European events of the era (Tulip etc.) in various cars, including a Monte in an E Type sometime around then.

The Pinders were 67th from a start number of 71 on the 1966 (March26/27) Express and Star Rally in a 998 Cooper. This was a National status event, probably the top non-International Rally in the UK at the time, using special stages on Epynt and Welsh forests. They were entered as being from Peterborough Motor Club. Cannot confirm this was in GFL50D but if not they must have been through a lot of cars after their Jaguar days.

GFL 50D, a red/black Morris Cooper, wasn't registered until September 1966 so the Express & Star was probably in their previous 998 Morris Cooper, DEG 700C which was their 1966 Monte mount.
There is a picture of GFL in Frederic Reydellet's excellent Mini au Rallye Monte Carlo and I've seen another picture of it somewhere but cannot recall where.
Roy Pinder was the MD of W Pinder & Son of King St Peterborough and was a Monte regular in the 1960's, with Michael from 1966.
1960 Jaguar
1961 Jaguar
1962 Jaguar

1966 Morris Cooper 998
1967 Morris Cooper 998
1968 Morris Cooper S 1275
1969 Ford Cortina
1970 E-Type

The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who do not possess it.

I notice that you don't have a XJR on your list

I read that comment from Simon as the list of the cars the Pinders did the Monte in.

Not sure if it will add anything but have uploaded a few scans of the report in Autocar dated 26 January 1967 - Difficult to scan as magazine has a spine so have just did first few pages then Monte Carlo 1967 report, Shoehorn jobs with Mini 'Twinny', Radford in receivership, and a few related adverts.
