A record asking price for a 998 Cooper surely... (an absolutely mint original Tweed Grey one went for half this price two months ago.)

http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C825803

Talking of big prices... £50K - £58K expected for this 970..

That is huge amount for the 998cc - I like "the trim is original too (porcelain green and dove grey with reclining seats). The trim was restored by Newton Commercial" :D

Its a van with a back seat. Its the same floor as an estate or clubman estate. These are rare but they were available, I think they must have been a special order thing in the day.
The van probably started life with a local council or public company.

thanks iain, i was under the impression that a van with a rear seat still had a flat load bay in the rear rather than a spare wheel well, i guess thats just earlier models though....

You do see vans with a normal load floor that have had a rear seat fitted. That involves cutting a section out of the front of the load floor.

Back in the day no purchase tax was payable on vans so people bought the vans and installed rear seats. Trouble was that vans were limited to 40mph if no side windows were added.

According to AKD 3519 there are 6 part numbers for "van w/ wooden load floor" complete floor assembly. In the same book the Identification Data shows a footnote for both the Austin and Morris Mini-Van (with wooden load floor) as "Available for 'Not UK' only". I think that would mean 'for export only' but since I only speak 'American' English I can't be sure.

I think the wood load floor van was mostly exported to countries with high non-commercial vehicle import taxes. They would then be converted by the dealers to estates after the sale. BMC also has listed a rear seat and fittings (van with wooden load floor) kit as an optional extra. Very much like an estate rear seat but it has bolt-in side supports.

The vans with the estate floor pan were used by a utilities company in the southwest although I'm not sure who exactly. I know all the ones I've seen were originally orange like the eBay car.

what is award winning about the gearstick boot screwed on top of the carpet?

I'm questioning the passenger site heel mat too....actually for 43K I'd like to see a BMC heel mat on the driver side. Am I wrong for 66?

I'd rather the ex-Pinon Trickett for 39K....for sale again?

It's not difficult - But current owner clearly oblivious to the Elephant in the room regards body differences... Think there is a nice project in there somewhere but certainly not as suggested!

All the hard work has already been done.
