Wilkins was, I think, in the original Top Gear - when it was mainly about reviewing cars.
Both well known journalists in the day.
Seems to have been in a shorter "rally within a rally" rather than the 69 Monte itself.
Not the original 67 Monte car but probably the new car built for the TAP by the works?
My guess is the pair entered the Rallye Méditerranée so they could cover the Monte for an episode of the programme. There's a small clip from the 1969 Monte featured on Wheelbase on the following page

Yes Stu I had a freudian moment when I was running it thru my head I was thinking about Wheelbase. and wrote Grandstand (proper motoring prog's.)
