Shame they are MWS.
Poor quality wheels with lamentable service as a free extra!
Anyone remember their replica D1's. You know the ones that wouldn't fit on a car!

Yes, they don't have the very best of reputation, do they.

Re: MWS 12" Rosepetal replicas...
And why are the rosepetals £99, when most of their other 10" wheels are just under £50. Looks like they are cashing in on the desirabilty to me.

A bit like minispares then.
It will be interesting to see whether they are as good in the flesh though as the ms ones are superb finish.
Glad i sold my set of 12's although the 12's they are selling don't look quite right to me spokes to round i am sure they are not the same as the ones i sold. How long before speedwell wheels are reproduced? not long they already make brm ones for vw's!!

Re: MWS 12" Rosepetal replicas...
You mean that MWS have found and negotiated with the supplier of Minispares Rosepetals and are now selling them for a nadge less, but still a load of cash?
Please don't delete this as it is a reasonable comment and one which I would be prepared to wager on being truthful.
NB:- I am very familiar with chinese negotiation, manufacture, quality and last of all dedication to anyone with money. They will take the stamp out of the moulding and run you a batch, if you are prepared to buy enough. The tooling is there, the quality is there, the price is there and you'd be utterly bonkers not to use them for manufacture, unless you were a foundry in bromsgraaawve. I am aware of the "problem" with top of the range climbing gear being knocked out without the "branding" by unscrupulous persons.
I'd like to line them up and see if this is the case. I'd put £20 on the table to say they were dimensionally identical.

Why would you think I'd delete the post?
Seems like a reasonable suggestion.
If it's true however I imagine MS will have something to say about it. After all they had to pay for their tooling, so in English law (for what its worth) the patterns belong to them even if they are in China.

The Japanese have been selling 12" Rosepetals for quite a while... Hmm...
Generally I have never dealt with them, so can't comment on the quality. But from what I've read here and in other forums - they don't have the best of reputation regarding the quality of they'r products...

I like the way that the picture on the web site doesn't even match the description.
"ROSE PETAL " By JBW, Traditional Design, Superior Craftsmanship, Stylish & Sleek. This Traditional 8 Spoke Alloy Wheel comes painted In Matt Black with Matt Silver High-lighted Rim.

Re: MWS 12" Rosepetal replicas...
I rang yesterday and they are supplied with stainless nuts, spacers etc.. i am contemplating ordering a set.. £414.80 posted including the vat.
On the description, i was told that they were eligible for historic.. didnt say about fia approved. To be fair, the ms one were made in china and so are these im not sherlock holmes but i can guess where there from. why pay £200 extra for a set of wheels that arent going to be used for fia purpose.
i'l take a photo of them and a photo of the ms ones if anybody is interested in seeing the difference?
The photo of them looks just like the ones turtle trading sell, there not 'Matt' they look more satin in colour. i'd be ordering silver anyway.

100% these are not comming from the same place as the minispares ones. minispares own the (very expensive) dies which make theirs.
i dont know how identical they are, but looking at the photo they are a copy of the ms one rather than a turtle trading / vortz one etc.
please note, these are my own, individual sales, nothing whatsoever to do with my employer, minispares

Re: MWS 12" Rosepetal replicas...
mmm I can see the lawyers getting envolved in this one, I know of a similar case regarding OZ wheels many years ago where a similar thing happend. I to wouldnt buy anything regardless of what from MWS, I had nothing but hassle with there wheels when we supplied a couple of sets to my customers many years ago, excuses afer excuses oh and even when one of the wheels broke up after going in a pot hole. Its sad to say but one bitten twice shy.

Re: MWS 12" Rosepetal replicas...
I've bought hundreds of wheels for customers to MWS, only had some minor problems with varnish blistering on some wheels some years ago, and for fitting tyres on 6x12
, but they exchange them with new ones. OK it's not forged quality or "UK made products", but for that -cheap- price, what do you expect ?

Re: MWS 12" Rosepetal replicas...
Personally I would want a decent copy, this wheel only resembles the origional. BTW looked into the Jap 12" rosepetal for a guy over here, apparently they only made one batch a fair few rears ago and have only recently got rid of them all, I am told they have no intentions of re making the 12" again.

That certainly "looks" more like a 12" rosepetal to me, much better shape to my eye.

Re: MWS 12" Rosepetal replicas...
that MWS 12" looks a bit weedy,
from that picture aloan you would think there a 15" wheel......
i had a set of there D1's, i had to machine the backs to get them on a S brake set up. and one needed a few more weights then i wished to get to balance. thinking back i wished i got an original set and put the time into those.
i like rose petals, but they have allwase been big money, if youre going to make wheels - why not make them right!
as with anything, if they where going to be serious and do it well , you need an original to go from , there just out for cheep replicas i would say.

Re: MWS 12" Rosepetal replicas...
However if you read the March 2011 of Cooper World on the rebuild of the Arden car already pictured above it states regarding the Rosepetals "a set of 12" Rosepetal wheels which initially were sourced from a dealer in the UK but turned out to be very expensive scrap. At a price a second set was sourced from a second dealer in the UK and refurbished to an excellent standard"
I assume from the comments that even the second set required refurbishment before fitting. If so it really begs the question............does a large sum of money get you a better set of Rosepetals? It appears not.

When talking about ORIGINAL 1960's Rosepetals of any type or condition the price is always pretty much astronomical, this is dictated by the normal law of supply & demand, the supply of these very rare wheels, in period, let alone 50 years after the event, is very, very small therefore the price is very, very high.
Add to this the fact that they were made out of smashed up second hand magnesium gearbox cases & rot like the very devil, most wheels that are seen now are either useless or bordering on useless & realistically can only be used as a sort of glorified stand for the car when its stationary.
I have never been able to understand why people are so happy to put their "priceless" car on original 1960's magnesium wheels when perfectly good copies are available fairly easily (certainly when compared to finding a "good" original set).
Anyway, rant over
