Doesn't look quite right to me, but Mark is the main man on these.

Personally I would say that it was a reproduction, it is one of the ones sold by Minispares in the 80's & 90's.

So far from the real thing that it's unlikely to fool anyone.

IMO a fake is something that is deliberately made & sold to deceive.

As it says in the listing made by the 1990's version of Downton with their address on.

They are loosely based on an original design from the 1960's.

I noticed that Somerford have a Downton badge in there listings, i dont mind having a fake. but i would like it to look right. what would you have to pay for a genuine article, if one came up?
While i am here i thought i would put up a couple of pics of my manifold!

If you want a good repro badge then the current incarnation of Downton sell an excellent one that is almost indistinguishable from the originals. The ones he sells were based on an original I sold him.

I also have a couple of tatty originals that I would be prepared to sell, but these will not be cheap.

Mark
Is it possible to spot one of these from an original and, if so, how?

There are a few ways, but to most observers they will look pretty much identical, particularly once fitted to a car.

The easiest one to spot is that the black lines on the repro ones are fractionally narrower than the silver horizontal lines, where as they should be of equal width.

So the rear window stickers on ebay will not look right in a 1968 car or will it ??

It will look OK, but it will have the 1990's company details on.

I still have a few of these;

I have just added a listing to ebay offering one of my originals.

PLEASE DON'T BID ON IT AS I HAVE ONLY PUT IT UP THERE TO HOPEFULLY UNDERMINE THE FAKE BADGE THAT IS BEING OFFERED AT THE MOMENT!

It will be removed before the listing finishes, with any bids that are made cancelled.
