Thank you, but if I can do it I believe most can. I started this having never restored a car before. With a lot of time and patience yours will be equally as rust freejava gt wrote:Looking forward to the updates Callum,of all the projects on this forum your one and Ollies are the two I read over and again to gain insight into what it will take to get my 60 rust free and are a great source of inspiration and know how for home restorers. That is not to take away from all the other projects on the go here but the level of crustiness in both projects has hit a cord with me.I hope some day to be as rust free as you are.

Re: Mk2 Cooper
that looks great
it always seams so easy once the whole shell is painted and all you have to do is bolt shiney bits back onto a shiney car!

Re: Mk2 Cooper
Thanks everyone. I'm glad the bodywork is pretty much finished, was starting to get a bit tedious! As you say the enjoyable bit shouldn't be far away now

Very nice, paint is the one thing that finally shows all the effort you have put in before

Great to see all that hard work finally being covered over.Few things beat getting a shiny bare shell to play with.

Re: Mk2 Cooper
Nothing major, wasn't going to update until it was painted. I have given it two coats of high build which has been flatted with a guide coat. Now sorting any imperfections and then will give it another two coats and flat back again, then i will see where we are at. Hopefully i wont of missed anything and it will be ready for colour.ManyMiniCoopers wrote:Is there any updates on this, Callum?

Getting there then now, problem with this stage is it seems to take ages to do properly and pictures don't really show anything until top coat applied,
I am a little way behind you but have found the mirka dry guide coat good, it's like a black powder but really shows up the imperfections

Yeah your right there, feels like I'm not getting anywhere with it. The flatting seems endless! I will look out for some of that, I have just been using matt black aerosol so farDaz1968 wrote:Getting there then now, problem with this stage is it seems to take ages to do properly and pictures don't really show anything until top coat applied,

Re: Mk2 Cooper
Finally got some paint on it! Knocked up a basic booth on Thursday then painted it today. A few bits of dust manged to find their way in but for a first attempt in a dodgy booth its not too bad.
An old gazebo and some masking film did the job

The pictures aren't great as the gazebooth was in the way

.

Flat and polish tomorrow then on to the doors bonnet and bootlid in the week.
I would also like say thanks to Nick W, been pestering him all week with lots of questions on how to paint. He has been very patient with me and his advice has been spot on!
Cheers Callum

Looks superb, did you use solid 2k or clear over base as I am still undecided what to paint mine with
