Those Paddy Hopkirk Carrera recliners are really comfortable and are well worth repairing.
I'm still looking for another one to complete the set.

Re: 1960 California MKI build
Quick update or lack of progress...............Car has been at paint shop for 5 weeks now and still not started! We seem to have come to an impasse over the price, I was quoted a price after they had done a full inspection of the work done but when the car arrived at their shop it was deemed to be insufficient! So I think it's time to move on and find a different shop to do the paint. So at he moment I have a shop full of rebuilt parts for the mini and nothing to bolt them to....................................

It's sort of gratifying to know that painters everywhere are pretty much the same!
Really sorry to hear about your issues. Hope you manage to get sorted soon.

when you talk to any bodyshop....go for the most miserable pessimistic one you can find as any thing thing else is usually bullshit
I would go bust in no time with my overheads trying to restore minis

Re: 1960 California MKI build
Well, Well, Well, Paintshop called this morning and after a long conversation have finally struck a deal we both can live with. My problem was I wasn't being picky enough for them! they wanted to do a concour paint job (because that's what they do) and all I wanted was my boyracer road car to look nice and shinny! So it goes in to the prep booth next week...............We shall see.........

Sounds ideal. Let them do what they do, for the price of what you want.minimans wrote: they wanted to do a concour paint job (because that's what they do) and all I wanted was my boyracer road car to look nice and shinny!
If it's what they do, I'm sure they won't know how to do any lower quality a job!
Everyone's happy.

Re: 1960 California MKI build
Well I'm still waiting for the body shell to come back but in the meantime I went down to the trim shop and picked up my Paddy Hopkirk recliners.
I'm very happy with the way they turned out. re trimmed in leather with new foams, they are super comfy. A bit bright but I had the leather in stock and I think they will go well with the OEW body colour. And this is what they looked like before...................

Certainly a great improvement.
If you don't mind me asking, how much does it cost in the States to get a couple of seats re covered in Leather like that?

Cost me $500 and I supplied the leather, Not the cheapest I could have got it done but I use this trim shop all the time and know the quality of their work. Franzini Bros, they are very well known for their custom trim work on hotrods and award winning restorations.

They are 60's seat so no, not readily available but they do come up on eBay every now and again. The original cloth wasn't very hard wearing so usually their pretty far gone.

Re: 1960 California MKI build
Progress at last!! went to the paint shop today to check on a Bentley they are doing for me and was surprised to see my mini had had some work done. so all interior and boot and engine compartment is done, just the exterior to go. Maybe by the end of the year I'll have my car back in the shop!

Re: 1960 California MKI build
About time I updated this thread although there really isn't much to tell! Still waiting for my shell to get back from the paint shop...................... But I did order all the parts from minispares for the Arden 8 Port. New valves, pushrods, a 649 8 port cam and followers and a head stud kit to suit. So now I'm broke but happy............
