2016 Mini Cooper Register Northumberland Borders Rally
We are delighted to announce that the 2016 running of the Northumberland Borders Rally will take place on Saturday the 22nd of October.
Backed again by YBracing, the event will once more be a Clubmans status rally and a round of the Historic Rally Car Register Premier Rally Championship.
OS maps, start and finish venues, etc. TBC but it will run to the format of recent years - special tests followed by a half-night plot and bash navigational rally and pub finish.
Regulations will be available on 1st of August. In the meantime, we look forward to welcoming competitors old and new.
Niall Cook, SoM.

Hi all,
Here's our official flyer for the event, which some of you may have seen from the rally's Facebook page or at the HRCR Open Day at Gaydon on Saturday. Please help spread the word by sharing it amongst your friends. Car featured is Peter Machin's 1071.

Re: 2016 Mini Cooper Register Northumberland Borders Rally
A quick update on this year's event for you - plans for it are progressing well with a route for the leg after dark now sketched out and ready to go to the RLO once we have checked out some options for the final third. We've also identified some potential new test venues for crews to enjoy and will endeavour to run each test twice so they can hopefully improve on their first run times, although it doesn't always work out like that! The finish venue is confirmed as the Riverdale Hall Hotel in Bellingham where there will be the usual free buffet for crews and marshals. For those looking to stay over, there are rooms on offer at discounted rates - just mention you're with the Mini Cooper Register when booking. There are also other accommodation options in the town, along with the usual amenities including a petrol station. If you're trailering your car to the event, you have the option of leaving your trailer at the Vallum start again or at Riverdale Hall, although either will be entirely at your own at risk of course. Looking ahead, we have a 'drive out day' to check out roads and test venues and after that will be at the mini action day at Blyton distributing flyers for the event. Please come and say hello if you see us. Thanks all

Re: 2016 Mini Cooper Register Northumberland Borders Rally
Quick update, plans for the 2016 Borders are progressing well- the RLO has approved the route and the test venues for the daytime leg of the event have been secured. These will be the usual mix of non- damaging surfaces and layouts that we hope will prove enjoyable for crews. As ever, the landowners concerned have gone out of their way to accommodate our event, something we can only put down to how popular the cars remain. Next up for us as organisers is to complete the route authorisation submission to the MSA and finalise the regulations for the event, due out on 1st August. Entries can be made either using the online system introduced for the 2015 event or by the usual snail mail. We look forward to receiving them and to having a great day of Motorsport on 22nd of October. Niall Cook, SoM.

A first class event that REALLY deserves more entries. Niall and the team go that extra mile to ensure things run smoothly and this gives a great experience for the competitors.
Seeing as this year seems to be the one the Mk1 Performance team is getting out there and using our cars properly, why not come and have a go? It suits all abilities and is bloody good fun to boot!

Here is the entry list as it stands at moment. Thanks to those that've got their entry in early as it really helps us as organisers. Obviously, we'll need more entries to have a viable event but hopefully these are on their way. If anyone is looking for a nav., please get in touch.

CALL FOR ENTRIES
Can anyone that's either due to or contemplating entering this year's Borders or Tynedale rallies get in touch please? Whilst we had an initial flurry of entries in response to the early bird rate that we're very grateful for, things have gone a bit since and we're now concerned that we won't have enough to run this year. We are also conscious of some of the regulars being unable to make it and clashes with other events, despite our announcing the date of the event as long ago as last winter and in accordance with the rallying calendar at the time. To confirm, the minimum number required is 15 and we currently have 8 confirmed entries. Regrettably, due overheads, commitments to landowners and other considerations such as paying for food at the finish well in advance, we're not in a position to wait until the last minute in the hope of achieving the required number. We therefore hope to hear from a few more of you soon.

Re: 2016 Mini Cooper Register Northumberland Borders Rally
To help keep this event on track I have decided to get out from behind the camera and stick my nose into some maps.
A 1984 Mini City was found locally for a cheap price last Friday. It needed a few bits and pieces doing to make it rally worthy.
As found
Over the last four days me and Dave (the driver) have been bust fixing and replacing various items which either did not work or were not up to scratch for the rally.
So far the brakes have been fettled, the suspension adjusted (luckily it had Hi-Los fitted), the seats replaced, rear lights replaced, sealed beams replaced with Cibie H4s, chrome spats removed, bumpers attached and various electrical faults have been fixed. There still more to do like fitting a better breathing exhaust and air filter and building a dash panel with map reading light and clock.
As of today the car looks like this
By the way, if anyone is thinking of entering, do it quick and come and have some fun up North.

Could do with help with the marshalling if you can spare the time? Free buffet for marshals at the finish plus you get to see Stuart and Davy drive past in 'knob'nimbusprint wrote:And a "drone" for 'Combe ?? Actually Stu, we are in Hexham that weekend, so will come and cheer you on.
