The number of threads publicising "modern" "historic" events is right and proper for a section entitled "Historic Motorsport".
Having little interest in "modern historics" these days (not least after seeing two of my former cars compete with great success in historics - but in a spec. bearing little relationship to what they were "in period"), I for one would welcome the split several other forums have had to introduce to cover discussion of real history rather than current "events" (not all of those events publicised are competitive sport and some are "demonstrations", often misleading those who are not too clear as to the vital difference).
There is so much to still record about the original Mini era. Another (not Mini) forum's created records even forced a specialist author the write a new book to correct all the errors in his previous books. A serious dedicated motorsport history thread might just attract some of those there at the time whilst they are still with us. Bluntly, what's the point of departing this earth still keeping such knowledge close to the chest?
(and no, I wouldn't give room to "show car" "number plate replicas" in either section...)

Re: Historic Motorsport/Motorsport History
Interesting suggestion.
I'll start a poll to see what people think.
As usual, I am always concerned about "dilution" of what is already a very small forum, as I find the more sub forums there are, the fewer posts are made everywhere.

Re: Historic Motorsport/Motorsport History
Instead of splitting the Historic Motorsport section, maybe we could have a new section called Events. People could discuss up and coming events and post reports/pictures on where they have been. This should be for all types of motoring event, be there sporting or not. Then keep the Historic section for discussion of historic cars, people and past events.

Re: Historic Motorsport/Motorsport History
Nothing much wrong with the Historic Motorsport thread and always very interesting. I'm in agreement with Stuart, a thread entitled Classic Car Events would help. If you notice we here in Northern Ireland make the distinction as events like the Cultra Hillclimb, Loughgall Festival of Motorsport and the Killyleagh Competition Car & Motorbike show are rightly placed in this section as all feature historic competition cars. Events like the Kilbroney Car Show and the Waringstown vehicle Cavalcade are placed in the general chat section not being historic motorsport related.
I think this thread is managed very well is my view.

Re: Historic Motorsport/Motorsport History
I'd be happy for the historic section to stay as it is, but as Surf suggests, an Events section would be good.
Here we could share upcoming general events and share photos of same after it all has happened. Like Alan says, there are a few events we have had here in NI that don't fall under Historic Motorsport and it's nice to be able to share to all you folks on the mainland what we get up to on this side of the shough

Historic section to stay as it is, in my opinion.
I'm a competitive man so I use every unfair advantage I can to finish as high up as I can.
That said. I'm not daft...I know my car contains tweeks and materials that racers in the '60s would have thought were pure witchcraft.
But what are you supposed to do? Be happy finishing a lap behind Swifty with his replica 940 head castings...or keep up the best you can?

Just voted 'remain' and would rather not have competition mixed in with show etc events
