Hi Folks
I picked up a short motor with gearbox and ancillaries.
Tag missing, but casting number on block is 12G 1279.
It doesn't have the tappet covers, but does have the extra head bolts.
The guy I got it from says it was a late MK3 'S'.
Can anyone identify the number?
Cheers

Solid back block 11 stud normally 1300GT , not mk3s , yes I have heard all the stories about the last mk3s had this block and GTs had S engines because of mixups shortages etc, have seen solid block in a S, dealer fitted when the car was young, part number mixup/ lower price or even on back order and could not wait ,anyway I hope you did not pay S prices as there is 3 -500£ differential 1300 to S depending on bore size .

Thanks Rusty
It turns and looks to be in reasonable nick, and yes didn't pay too much.
I'll check out condition and rebuild if necessary. If it's out of a 1275GT, what colours were the engine, gearbox, bellhousing, starter, etc painted in period ?
