Checked out the site he linked to in the auction, too. Check out the extension arm on that passenger mirror. Can't be many used one of those floating around as I am sure they were all whacked off by passing cars, mailboxes, pedestrians that got too close etc...

I have one of those in the bottom draw of my toolbox! It came off one of Mario Andretti's Indy cars being restored next door. Perhaps I should dig it out?zbarbera wrote:There's a real one. Wonder what the reserve is set at?

Re: WTH??!?! Have you seen this item on ebay.
Ha, best Mario Andretti story I have is in the early 80's when I was living in Ohio my dad and I went to the Mid-Ohio track for a weekend event and Mario crashed early but took a full "victory" lap in the tow truck. Crowd loved it.
Fun times! I was too young to drink so was not as "lubricated" as my dad and his friends. Especially for the 24 hour events!
And if you need a bit of extra pocket money, then there are worse ways to earn it than digging that mirror out

Re: WTH??!?! Have you seen this item on ebay.
nice 'mike tyson' sykes puller on ebay, and its cheap
its missing the hydraulic ram, but they are a standard sykes ram from the bearing puller kits and can be bought second-hand / new from ebay.
it does have the part for using it in situ, which is handy.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SYKESPICKAVAN ... 1815590842
ive a couple of these and they are undefeated (hence the name! ) when it comes to pulling the flywheels off, they have so much 'yoick' when used with the ram they almost pull the crank out the block!
a handy addition to any tool chest
the taper tools are pretty useless, but handy to have for lapping flywheels onto as they are 'taper correct'
there is also part of the primary gear tool set in the box as well - the part that fits on the crank to slide the oil seal onto

Be interesting to see what that makes Rich as I have one I would sell, also without the hydraulic ram.
I've got a second one with the hydraulic ram but I'm keeping that one

Re: WTH??!?! Have you seen this item on ebay.
I tried using my hydraulic puller on an A+ verto flywheel and sadly it didn't match. Only good for the older flywheels sadly.
Can you get a later "centre" to match the later flywheels.?

A bit of a climb down from £35,000......it is now advertised on carandclassic for £13,000Pete wrote:...and on the Austin page is this...

"HRN Heritage Automobiles is presenting for sale this 1963 Austin MINI Cooper, 997, ex Tommy Sopwith BTCC Race Car Driver with OSELLI period tuned engine"
This car was discussed at length on the old MCR forum , the 'Tom Sopwith' that appears on the buff logbook for this car isn't THE Tommy Sopwith, son of the aircraft aviation pioneer and early saloon car racer. I know because I asked Sopwith himself!
AND no mention of a Tommy Sopwith connection any more.....
AND still no pictures of its current state?

Imagine how many victims used to get ripped off with Sopwith style bullshit stories before decent forums like this came along.

"The car was believed to have been raced"
Still not totally 'bullshit-free" then.

Re: WTH??!?! Have you seen this item on ebay.
He probably means that a previous owner overslept a couple of times and had to put his foot down a bit to get to work on time ....THAT is a sort of race isn't it?Pete wrote:"The car was believed to have been raced"

Nice story though. About as likely as the genuine 19,000miles......
No photos of the current state in the ebay ad either?
I'm sure it is a perfectly viable project at the right price.
I wonder why (and how) the registration came to be "on retention" as the car would have had to be MOT'd for this?
The car will have been issued with a replacement won't it and the current V5 will show that?

...think given the amended price tag it must of been sold directly to someone at Beaulieu over the weekend!
