No.29 so far ( enthusiasm needed)
So I’ll start with a little introduction, I’m Giacomo, early 20’s from the seaside town Southend lol
So I I brought the no.29 racer shortly after her magazine feature. Some of you might know her. She was owned by Scott Turner before hand and before that by the gentleman that raced her. So from what I remember at the moment she was raced until the 90’s then garaged for a while until Scott had the opportunity to buy her.
He was sharing a place with a friend of mine at the time and I’d immediately had that WANT feeling as soon as I layed eyes on her.
Fast forward a few years and she cropped up for sale and a deal was made and I turned up home with her! 1 mini sold to make room and another problem replaced according to my mum.
So fast forward a year or 2 after that and some mini shows. I was coming off a round about to meet some mates and I got done by a jag (190 degree turn, drunk driver. Stopped on my side of the road leading to a head on on his passenger side floor come up 30cm pretty heart breaking moment at that time. I was lucky to find a company who managed to straighten the shell out without cutting any metal and the insurance was nice enough to spend out on getting her sorted! Any more info on that give me a pm or a comment on here and I’ll go onto more detail
Now she has changed a little since I’ve got her. The fuel cell wasn’t big enough really to get me anywhere without stopping all the time so that was changed, a speedo was added aswell as a fuel gauge. I’ve also popped on Gas lowered shocks.
So the plan atm is for me is to get her track worthy, iron out some current problems. She needs:
• Brakes sorting, calipers changed but still not 100% right.
• New bucket seat
• Suspension set up
• 1380 sitting in the garage for a year or 2 that needs to go in lol
• Other than that, get her on track and start enjoying her.
This is the year and next to start enjoying her more!

Welcome to the forum, great car! I've not read the magazine article, but seem to remember your car was racing in the 60s??

I remember when Scott bought that car. He had a soft spot for her but sadly he doesn't do forum etc

What a cracking little racer! It looks like a real time warp item. Pretty much unchanged from 80's Mini Miglia or Sevens.
Judging by the description of your crash, it sounds like you were lucky the Insurance company didn't scrap it.
It would be great if Pete could dig out some 60 racing history as well.

yes she was i'll try and get a copy when i've got spare time and post it up on here. Failing that she will be at Battlesbridge this sunday and London to Brighton next weekend. Yes, she really is. I'm trying to keep her looking as she is as much as possible. Everything thats been changed i've kept so it can be put back to original if and when needs be. When they sent an engineer over to justify the quote to repair he loved the car and said he'd do anything he could to pay out for it i was very lucky!

hopefully a few weeks after London to Brighton she'll get the 1380 heart and i'll get some nice sticky tyres for the minilites.

Well, holy thread revival. Things have taken a change since then (maybe not for the best, kind of for the best)
So whats been going on?
Well stripped the 1380 down and it wasn't all it cracked up to be, needed far to much work so it got sold on. The mini lites are now on and she does look good with them!
So i didn't end up taking it London to brighton unfortunately as i started to have some running issues with her before hand.
So whats the plans now? Maybe just stick to something simple and go with a 998 screamer. I'm really not sure to be honest. I'll need some inspiration on the engine side of things. I'll be pulling her out of the garage next week as the factory where i work is closing down for 3 weeks (shut down period twice a year yay) and i can put some miles on her. Will update with some photos to

This is the route cause of my issues. The regulators an old mg one and the dynamo no ones been able to suss what its come off of yet lol

The conversion is not difficult, but if the wiring has already been messed with it will be very difficult to advise.

Mini Spares have a How To Feature on their web site which gives the part numbers for the bit you may need.

Thats a quick interesting read thank you! now to find an alternator thats small enough to fit with a front mount rad......
