35 grand for a MK3 someone has been at the crack pipe again.
Mark, I could live with the John Cooper window sticker and Downton badge fake or not, but I would be concerned why an early Mk3 Cooper S has Blue interior. Most 1970 Ss I have seen have Black interior. :)

joking apart, it will be interesting to see what this car sells for

it may be that the cars of the 'er ilk - a cooper s on the logbook only sort of thing are going to be 'acceptable' to people who desperately want a cooper s, but cannot afford one with the 'right' chassis number

im rubbing my hands together as the value of the er' increases

My mk3 S had a lovely navy blue interior, with the low back recliners. Pity it had no floors though!

Took a lot of convincing him that it wasn't an S...
http://www.theminiforum.co.uk/forums/to ... -s-please/
I'm not surprised it took so long to convince him, there's so much misinformation on that thread! If he'd have come one here it'd have took about two seconds. Having said that he's quite obviously a conman because as Rich said when he put it up on Ebay he did so in the full knowledge that his car is a Mk2 Mini 1000 and chanced his arm misdescribing it as a Cooper S in order to decieve. He probably hoped some idiot was gonna make him a £30K offer to sell offline and make a run for it. He's obviously been pushed to come clean by the number of comments he's had plus all the criticism he's getting on Facebook and has edited his ad. As usual there's nothing wrong with the car, in that it's a nice thing at the right price (£10K?) for someone (though not my cup of tea) , it's some of the dodgy characters and p*ss takers involved in Minis that's the problem and there seems to be one born every minute!

The odd seller asking astronomical sums for their classic car is nothing new, and I don't think it dictates the market. They tend not to shift obviously but yes sellers constantly refer to other prices when setting their own. However, the number of UK Mk1 Ss coming up for sale does seem to have dwindled in recent times and there's no shortage of buyers, or should I say investors as there's feck all else for wealthy people to tie their cash up in. I wonder what difference the forthcoming Euro elections will make, the decision is bound to affect the economy but rare classics certainly seem a safe bet for now!

With my MCR Registrar hat (and anorak ) on, over 50% of the calls/emails I get are from people looking for a car as an investment and not for driving.

And it is far more difficult than you might think to find a proper car these days. We tend to get a bit stuck in a certain price bracket of the past with our idea of values and it's not just S's either it is the same with Lotus Cortina's, Escort RS's, 911's etc. etc.
The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who do not possess it.

simon

there is £100 coming your way if you can tell people that the only cars worth buying for investments are black and gold pretend cooper's, vile mini based kits cars, gtm coupes and 2 door Austin 1100, oh, and historic race minis.

all the best rich {soon to be a millionaire} 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

Interesting to note GTM coupes are distinct from 'vile mini based kit cars' (not that I disagree)

awarding your self a wee air of exclusivity there, are you Rich?

Just to balance this, a 1071 and 1275 S both sold in recent weeks to two people on here for about a third of the asking price of that red 1071. So there are two sides to the story and if someone really wants a decent S they can certainly find one for a fraction of £77K!
