Another small job sorted. I bought a new set of alloy door hinges and they are a lot tighter than the first set, but the profile of them isn't quite the same as the originals, they are too long and pointed.

The gasket shows how much longer they are.

So I filed them as best I could to look like the originals. Heres how they look now compared to how they were

Time for an update. Made a start on the bodywork last month, not done this before so it's taken a while to get the hang of it. Started on the rear and I'm just working my round it. Pulled out as many dents as I could on the bootlid before the filler went on.

Image

Gave it a coat of high build after this with a guide coat, couple of places needed a bit more filler after it was flatted back. This is the second coat of high build which i finished flatting tonight.

Looks ok but not sure how it will look with the topcoat on, time will tell. Moving onto the side next

Getting to the rewarding part then now. I recently painted my mk1 and there is a steep learning curve but worth it in the end. Not sure if you are using a guide coat to aid sanding but it really helps. Mirka abranet is also very good paper.

Make sure you use fine enough grit paper on your filler, as it will shrink slightly and leave sanding marks through your final finish.

Keep up the good work as bodywork can be tedious, yet rewarding when done right.

Thanks I am looking forward to the end result, hopefully I won't give up halfway through. Yeah I am using a guide coat, thanks I will keep an eye out for that paper.

Cheers, I am using 80s then 180s before the primer. Is that fine enough?

Still carrying on with the boring stuff so not an exciting update. Finished the filler on the passenger side up to the swage line. Put the high build on last night. Still need to weld the drip rails on so will sort the top half once that's done

Cheers lads. Welding the front end together first did make it easy to get the spot welder in there. Also helped with getting the panel gaps right

Not had much time recently, busy with work and a weeks snowboarding but the front end is finished now. Epoxy primer and high build went on yesterday, made a start on the drivers side today.

Just looking at this thread for the first time: all memories on my '67 Cooper shell rebuild come back to mind. Very much the same amount of work. Well done 8-)

None of the joints have been sealed yet, I managed to get them very close when welding so at the minute it's just where the epoxy primer is sitting in there. I think I will be using tiger seal when I get round to it.

Not looked at all your pages yet but what a huge undertaking, excellent work and panel gaps to die for.

You should be very proud, great stuff.

My apologies Callum. Even better than I thought then !

I was thinking of Tiger seal as well so that sort of confirms my plans

Great work

I use tiger seal for joints / seams , not the cheapest but good quality
