Ha ha ! Like it, thanks for the new ones Mark

So the cars 'all dressed up with no where to go', I really wanna get a few road miles on it before it goes to the rolling road, maybe a few runs up and down a dual carriage way and get 50 plus miles on it,

but .... the car is insured, it's got a new MOT, but I can't use it because I haven't got any word back from the DVLA about a reg number, very frustrating, any ideas chaps ?

Steve the car looks ace! Get it down to Oulton or somewhere for a 'try out' !

I'd give DVLA a call and explain the problem, if the operative on the other end is smart they'll tell you where you're application is up to, they are usually very helpful if not that well trained on anything to do with old cars!

Letter came today from DVLA to ring an inspection service called SGS, have to wait till Tuesday now because of Easter, anybody know anything about them, anything that can be recommended for my car to make sure it's a smooth transition !

Track day places avail at Oulton on 6th April Pete, just trying to jiggle my days off

I work for SGS, although in Australia, in a completely different division (coal). I haven't had much to do with the automotive guys here, so I can't help you at all :D

So latest update, I rung SGS today to make an appointment, very polite and helpful, they called back this afternoon to tell me they had no area representative and I was booked into a local garage to have the car inspected.

Fortunately, I do know the garage well, and is a well respected independent motor dealer, he used to own Minis a long time ago, and most of the inspections he currently does is for imported Imprezas and Evos for SGS on behalf of the DVLA, so hopefully it should be a straight forward transaction, let's see, week on Thursday appointment.

Give them a call Steve, they should be able to tell you where you're up to. They're supposed to get you a V5 within ten days after the inspection's submitted.

The car had been in storage for a lot of years, had no new V5C, so was not on the computer database, so I had to go through the full pantomime ! , but after seeing that 850 1960 log book sell on eBay for over a grand, I understand the DVLA have to do checks to stop older log books being put on newer cars

No I got back an age related plate, similar number funnily enough , but I have a local family number to transfer on to the car so I'm not particularly bothered

So managed to get 30 miles on the car tonight, indicators packed in so that stopped play !, was getting dark so I'll look at that tomorrow

Car drives very well, handles lovely, only revved it to 4000 mind, 296 cam seems to work well with the 3:9 diff, still very drive-able, noisy but I love that !!, specially with the straight cuts 'wining' away and the SUs barking though the trumpets !

Slight leak on the rocker cover to sort, and I was worried it was getting a little hot but I'm just being paranoid I think !

I've no mirrors fitted and that was a bit strange on the road, rear view mirror was a waste of time , so need to sort that out for Blyton even though the car won't do much road mileage, I'd rather be safe !

So I'll get another 100 miles on it, then off to the rolling road on Tuesday to see how much power we have !, I'll be disappointed with less than 85 at the wheels, on paper it should provide more, let's see !!

My Brown envelope arrived today, hurrah !!!,

But of course there's bit's wrong !, within the chassis number they put in a "5" rather than an "S", Make of car is "Mini", and model not even filled in.

so its title is "Mini 2 Door Saloon"

I'm not going to bother asking them to change it, its not worth the hassle, I'm just glad i have a V5C at last, and I can drive it legally !

Tried to put my retained reg number on it on line, but I got so far through and it says I have to do it via post, which i've now done, and then hopefully the total transaction will be complete ....... lets see !

Make sure you're insured on the new reg if you want to be out and about..

I had the same rigmarole on my new motor, couldnt do it online so had to send it off, it took about 4 days for the reg to come off, and then 2 for the new v5 to come back, you can keep checking on the progress by doing the online data check.
Typically mine was 3 times as complicated as I was taking a private plate off, then back to its original then my new private plate back on... arrrgghhhh.....

BIG day today , I've got confirmation that at last I can put KEC112 on to my car officially and legally, it's been a long slog but I'm there.

KEC112 for those of you who haven't read my entire thread is a 'Westmorland ' plate from the town I live and was born, I've owned the plate for years and it's been on many cars, but the main reason it means so much to me is my dad had a Cooper Mk1 and its number was KEC414
