Goodwood 74 MM

Post by billycooper »

Full Entry List, Paul O Neill out in the ex Swifty Longman replica with Ade Barwick, and Andrew Jordan out in the Mowatt Mini with Nick, and no American Muscle in the pre 66 ish "Whitmore Cup", so good chance of a Mini win !

I'm there both days. GT40 race should be noisey. Also ground effect F1 and Group 5 demos should be too.

But the highlight will be the aero engined pre-war race.

Gosh. Swifty the only one of the same-old-faces, although it's about time he took a break and let some others have a go.
Great to see Keith Padmore having a race!

There should be a few of those aero engined Edwardian Specials running at Harewood in June.

jesus that red thing is hideous - I don't care how big the engine is, it just looks SHIT.

ive seen Richard cauldwell race the coal scuttle looking thing loads of time over the years, and he really can handle it, in the wet its ace to watch.

the yellow and black 'wasp' is pretty cool as well, you can even hear the engine firing as it goes down the straight at cadwell, its so big and lazy you can hear the 'thump'....'thump'...'thump' as it propels its self

my favourite Edwardian areo cars are the smaller things like the amlicars with the v8 hispanio engines in, they have a nice scale to them , and don't look ridiculous (take note, man with stupid red car....)

I agree, Jason Stanley is in there, who's been there since the beginning, no James Martin? Still very few club drivers.

Top 10 for Swifty in first race in Glyns 1275 GT, titanic battle with a Marlboro SD1, seems a lot of the cars have catch'd up development from last year, not quite as good a run for Ade Barwick in Swiftys old Longman 1275 GT though, well down the field

Swifty 6th in practice for pre 66 race, Stanley 8th, Huffy 9th, Nick Padmore 11th, should make a cracking race tomorrow, great to see Steve Soper at 64 years old nearly getting pole in his Cortina

Looks like someone is in need of an engine swap:

Sunny day but a very cold wind blowing across the airfield.

Yes Barwick pulled off before the end of qualy. Some big revolving parts off the Golf ended up trackside aswell! Needell in the Rover reckoned his poll sitting time for last year was surpassed by six cars this year, makes life hard for Shifty! If he's not got a big stroker in it already, now's the time! ;)

Great first day at Goodwood.

Swifty battle was great, especially the final pass.

It was cold, but at least the drizzle stayed away, and the sun even made an appearance during the Gerry Marshall Trophy.

As usual I've got more pictures than I know what to do with, but I thought I'd share this one as it is kind of on topic.

It's not just the Mk1 Forum that's going all ADO16, this GT was parked in the paddock today.

Another long and cold day at Goodwood. Great action all day, but almost all races suffered safety cars.

Nick Swift dropped out of the Gerry Marshall with engine problems. He said he missed a gear and maybe the crank had broke.

After another stoppage in the Bruce McLaren race I threw in the towel so I don't know what happened in the Whitmore trophy.

I'll be posting up pics during the week, as a taster here's the Longman Mini diving passed one of the SD1s

Sunday was a long day, as Surf has said there were safety cars and incidents right from the first race, we were right opposite the big first race accident which ended up with a car inside the pedestrian tunnel :(

jesus - that's pretty serious - just think what would have happened if that had happened in the revival - there would have been multiple casualties!!! - the tunnel is always ram packed full of people
