Re: Australian racer
I believe this was originally a 997 Cooper personal import, then 'developed' (as described) in the text as a race car, hence the now S appearance. The car was until very recently situated locally to me, I was unaware that it was to be sold? The Classic Throttle Shop are Sydney's premier sellers, maybe this is on a consignment sale type deal?
I wondered when the AUS $50K S level would be reached! Here it is!
Very nice car and 'believable' heritage I see it has an FE number .......

Re: Australian racer
I'd guesstimate about a June '62. The McLaren car had a sister car , UK built , raced in the same period and with a rumoured S development engine I hear, this one certainly looks to be of a similar pedigree.graham in aus wrote:I believe this was originally a 997 Cooper personal import, then 'developed' (as described) in the text as a race car......

Re: Australian racer
Hi Surf, yes, verbally I have been told it has had a "1071" engine at some stage, has varioulsy been described as a 1071 etc. But also that it was originally a 997 and the Chassis No. does look like a Cooper ?
Makes sense I suppose
The magic link here is John Leffler, think the equivalent of John Rhodes or the like!

Re: Australian racer
Early version of a 'Redline' i think, may also have been known as a 'Warnerford'
Different lengths available, swan neck, 3.5" and 5" still I think:
